    3. I don't suppose you have any pictures. I have two maps of the farm, one in the 1970's and one recently, the size of the Farm has altered considerably. Its often been mentioned but I had never seen it before so took a walk up to find it. Beautiful House. I have in my notes that a John Stokes farmed at Updown from the 1830-90's and the Friends were at Northdown and Brooksend. Always willing to learn more!! 3. My great-great grandfather John Jordan worked for 'Taddy' Friend all his life ( according to Sir William Joseph Jordan) and lived at Northdown. 3. I have been looking for the Taddy Friends Grave at Margate and typically found it last week when I was cameraless. Were these ancestors of yours at Ivy Cottages? Can take some recent pictures for you if you like. 3. Suzannah, yes, these were the JORDAN family, John and his wife Eliza nee JOHNSON who had 7 sons - one of whom ( Edwin) was my great grandfather ( lost at sea on the fishing smack LSD in 1914) and another of whom, William, who married Eliza Ann CATT, was the father of Sir William Joseph Jordan, High Commissioner of New Zealand in London during WW2. John was an ag. lab, who worked for Taddy Friend ( according to Sir William's speech when he was given the Freedom of Ramsgate) This is what I know about him: 28 on 1851 census Northdown ( HO 107/ 1629 502 ) 40 on 1861 census Cottage Northdown Margate St John RG09 534 9 11 48 in 1871 census at 80 Northdown Margate 58 in April 1881 census ( Margate St John ) resident at 3 Ivy Cottages Margate St John 2 Ivy Cotts in 1891 aged 68 0984 7 8 Resident at 20 Alexandra House Margate in 1901 census aged 79 Lost one of his legs before 1901 RG13 821 73 30 189 on 1901 census, died at home of 'natural decay' possibly Superintendent of Cavendish Sunday School ?( though that may be Joseph Catt) Worked for James 'Taddy' Friend, farmer at Northdown all his life I understand that the Alexandra Homes where he ended his life were endowed by Taddy Friend. I have a photO of William Jordan senior, Sir William's father, standing outside Ivy Cottages, but I would love to see what they look like now. Many thanks, Anne On 24 May 2006, at 13:31, suzannah.foad wrote: > I have been looking for the Taddy Friends Grave at Margate and > typically > found it last week when I was cameraless. > Were these ancestors of yours at Ivy Cottages?
