    3. I have a James Wales (son of John, a labourer) and who was a widower and a mariner, who married Mary Miller (also a widow, nee Hope) on 4th February 1839. Do any researchers know who he was married to before MARY? He appears in the 1841 and 1851 census, but I have no other information. Another James!!! This one married Hannah Foster on 5th Dec 1797 at St Peters. Are there any further bits of information regarding his marital status, father, place of birth etc???? I have bought an old microfilm reader, so am going to treat myself to some relevant microfilms - I feel terribly guilty keep asking someone else to do the looking up!! I just hope the microfilms are accurate!!!! Thank you all .... Linda

    3. James Whales = 5 Dec 1797 to Hannah Foster at St. Peters Thanet Children (not 100% certain about all of them because of diff. birth places and age discrepancy) : - John Foster Whales mr. bricklayer; b 1797 or later according to census; 1. = Mary Appleton in 1830; 2. = Elisabeth after 1849 - William bricklayer; b 1799 = Philadelphia Munn 25 Dec 1820 - Lewis b 1799 (?) - Mary b 1810 - bur 2 Nov 1811 St. John, Margate - Stephen Savin Whales bricklayer; b 20 Sep 1812 - d 16 Jul 1840 = Sarah Roalff/Rolfe - Thomas b 1818 - Edward b 1821 = Eilzabeth Bates Sept 1850 James b 19 Aug / bap 13 Sep 1778 at St. John, Margate as son of William W(h)ales and Ann(e) Savin (also called Swann). William W(h)ales was the son from John Whale's 3rd marriage to Hannah Overy. The James who married Mary Miller might have been a son of John Whales, brother to James Whales who married Hannah Foster.
