    3. Other than Parish records you have would suggest trying to find if they had any wills, properties etc. Have you tried www.a2a.org.uk for documents. I cannot think of any Philanthropist Cosworth's and just a quick look at Freebmd for any Birth Marriage or death in Thanet throws up not one! Good luck Suzannah ----- Original Message ----- From: "David Railton" <david@railtond.freeserve.co.uk> To: <Isle-of-Thanet-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, May 24, 2006 6:46 PM Subject: [IoT] COSWORTH > Arundel Cosworth was baptised at St Columb Minor in Cornwall in 1686. 3. Suzannah, Thanks for your reply. I have only found one will, that of Valentine Cosworth a young Royal Navy sailor. The family must have hit on hard times. In Cornwall they were Lords of the manor although I know, because of difficulties with a will many years before, this branch of the family lost out. This was a subject that exercised all of their Harman descendents - many, right down the generations, had Cosworth as a second forename so the name was obviously important to them. Oral family history has it that a Harman great grand aunt of mine supposedly went mad trying to prove that the inheritance should have been hers. She carried out extensive family history research but eventually destroyed it all!!!!!! I have investigated this question of the Cosworth will and it was all above board and the Harmans had no proper claim. I have, however, often wondered if the Cosworth who came to Margate had the vestiges of gentility and a bit of cash which might mean that there could be a record of them somewhere in Thanet. The Cosworth's Harman descendents were all fishermen and ferrymen - in the 16th century the Cosworth's ancestor, Sir John Arundell, was Vice Admiral of the West to Henry VII and Henry VIII. The name Cosworth disappeared in Kent. The first Cosworth in Kent had 3 sons, Valentine who died aged 21, Arundel who died aged 10 and John Jewell Cosworth. John Jewell had one son, also named John Jewell. I don't know what became of him or if he had children.
