    3. Margate Library nor Museum have any records of serving Margate Police. I am not completely sure about Canterbury Cathedral Archives. I do have one photograph of the Old Margate Borough Police taken in June 1881, 19 Policemen present but it may be too late for Mayhew and Brown/Fox. And without a picture to compare. Am willing to scam anyway so you can see the Uniform. The old Police Station Office is where I work now in the Museum. The Museum in the Market Place is housed in the old Station which stayed open till as late as 1969 when it was moved to Fort Hill. There is a good book (Below) which may help in your research, you can purchase copies through Amazon and the SOG. Good luck Suzannah MY ANCESTOR WAS A POLICEMAN. Antony Shearman [OS-BK-457] Contains details of some 250 archives with references to many thousands of names recorded in the police force registers in Britain. Since the act of 1829 the force has grown steadily in number. An appreciable number of these records are held on closed access but are listed so that the time of the researcher need not be wasted in looking for records which cannot be seen. There is a brief history of the police, an example of the great detail of person and conduct that may be found in records, then an annotated list of records for each police force. In some cases it shows that detailed records are closed but summaries are open, or that there is an unofficial index available. If you have police ancestors, this book is essential reading.
