Hello Susannah, During my research into the history of the village of Garlinge I found the details that you have just recorded regarding the pew. My interest came from the fact that COWELL was a family with large land holdings in Thanet, some of which were in Garlinge, and SOLLY is my family name on my mothers side. You may be interested to know that this information is recorded on the excellent Barry White's site under the details for St Johns, Miscellanea 1679 to 1812 ~ affidavits, etc, with a few births & deaths. Paragraph 54 contains the detail you have and paragraph 55 has the result of the disagreement which Barry states was found elsewhere. Mrs Eason lost her right to a position on the pew, Mr Solly became the person who had the right to decide who sat on the pew. Keep up the good work you do for this list. Laurie Bridger.
