    3. Isle of Thanet Gazette 20th February 1945 MISUSE OF PETROL - St Peter's Butcher fined. A car trip to Ramsgate to convey some goods to his daughters new home resulted in the appearance of a St Peter's Butcher at Ramsgate magistrates court on Monday on two summonses. Archibald George SPRINGETT of High Street St Peter's pleaded guilty to driving the car without a license and to the misuse of petrol. The facts of the case were outlined by Mr Eric Weale, prosecuting, who said P.C Close was on duty in Paragon Street from 7.30 to 10.35pm. The following day he interviewed defendant and asked him for what purpose petrol coupons were issued to him. He said they were issued to him in connection with his business as a butcher and for collecting swill. His daughter had just moved from Broadstairs to Ramsgate and he used the car to take a few articles of furniture to her. P.C Close found that defendants driving license had expired in October last. SPRINGETT told the magistrates he did not agree that he told the police officer he used the car for removing furniture. He brought a few boxes to Ramsgate and they contained a few articles which they did not wish to trust them to the removers. Adding that he was allowed three gallons of petrol a week for his business, defendant expressed his sorrow for the offence. The magistrates fined him 10s, for driving without a license and £1 for the misuse of petrol and he was ordered to pay £1. 6s costs. The case against Mrs Jessie SPRINGETT who was summoned for allowing the misuse of the petrol was adjourned till Friday.
