I applied for and received today from the GRO a very odd marriage certificate. 20th August 1887 Holy Trinity Parish Church Margate. After Banns Thomas Pearson, age 27, bachelor, occupation Traveller, residence 7 Lion Place, father John Pearson Gentleman - that's all ok so far but wife's details are Kate Emily Webster, age 26, spinster, no occupation, residence, 60 Trinity Square, Fathers name Emily Webster, occupation Barrister!!! Now I have heard of women's lib but...! I have seen marriage certificates with the mothers name on instead of the fathers but in this case coupled with the occupation I am rather confused. I am wondering if there is a mistranscription somewhere in the records that the GRO have and wonder if the original PRs have something different. Can anyone who has the transcripts assist in double checking the fathers details please Many thanks from a confused Jackie
