Hi Jackie If my sleuthing is correct I think the parents are Edwin WEBSTER (Barristers clerk) and Sarah Ann BILLOWS ( married 1851 Marylebone District), as on the 1861 census. Ref follows - RG9; Piece: 15; Folio: 107; Page: 72 They have a Kate of the same age. Could Emily on the father's occupation actually be Edwin? I'll keep searching to check this family out. Hi Andy, I'm curious - while the Edwin looks good, I've just looked at the transcript and image of the ref. below and cannot see a Kate. I was also searching the censuses but started with the 1891 looking for a father. I found a Reginald, a solicitor in Margate, but he was too young for Kate's father. However on the 1861 there is a Reginald, son of John who was also a Solicitor. On FreeBMD there is a Kate Emily Webster birth in June quarter 1861 in Kensington who could be Jackie's. Yes, sorry, you're quite right. I managed to split my research into 2! Kate is on the 1871 with Ada Mary WEBSTER (b1857 Kensington), and Clara [Edith] WEBSTER (b1863 Kensington). Ada is on the 1861 with Edwin and Sarah Ann WEBSTER. If it was my decision I would get the birth cert of the Kensington Kate Emily WEBSTER as that would then confirm that this is the right lot of WEBSTERs. On RootsChat.com there is a suggestion that Sarah Ann WEBSTER died in 1865. I couldn't find Edwin from a quick search either as a death record or on later census from 1861. I'd found the same Kate in 1871 but was considering her with John as the father. Now I think Edwin more likely considering Ada. The Kate Emily birth certificate is probably right and would be the answer if Jackie wants to be sure. A quick check of 1881 on Family Search gives an Edwin born in Lambeth (but in 1836) with Sarah Ann, wife born in Hampshire (but 1847). They had a son called Frederick too but again the date of birth was out. This Edwin's occupation is a Tobacconist but I suppose it could be a retirement job. I popped into the library while on another errand and typically the Holy Trinity Registers only go up to 1886! One year out. I also checked the Keble's gazette but no announcement. I'll try another avenue.
