Hi Lisa Jubilee Terrace was on Eaton/Belgrave Road, the West side, so on your left is your looking towards the sea. I am guessing here that you know Margate? The houses were built 1875 an before the terrace and Belgrave Road were built, you could see right across Dreamland, which was Sanger's Zoological gardens at the time. I have a map I can send showing the location on Jubilee Terrace and number 4. Its now numbered 39 Belgrave Road and still standing. William GRANT was the first recorded Coxswain of the Margate Lifeboat, he served in that capacity for 17 years (1863-1880). On 24th November 1877 the Lifeboat Quiver went to the rescue of 15 people on the Barque Hero and 7 people from the Brig Louisa, during a strong gale which increased to hurricane force with heavy rain, sleet and high seas. All the crew suffered severely from exposure in rendering these services and William GRANT was awarded the Institutions Silver Medal. Margate Lifeboat house has many wooden plaques, pictures etc, its free to view all year round. My grandmother lived at 4 Jubilee Terrace in Margate in 1911. Although I know the area well, I cannot find out where this was. Any information would be very welcome. Also, my great great grandfather (William Grant) was coxswain of Margate Lifeboat. I have some information about him, including a photo of him in his cork lifejacket. If anyone has any further details about him, or his work on the lifeboats I would love to hear from you! Many thanks Lisa ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
