(The earlier pub dating from 1774) Then I thought this must be the Northdown one but it is listed under St Peter's rather than Margate as it should be, on the 1861 census above. BUT, it turns out there was a Wheatsheaf in St Peter's all along, it shut 1975 and became a shop. So sadly I have nothing on this pub not ven being aware that at one time there were three pubs named the same in Thanet. You may have some luck on a Broadstairs message board asking locals about the place. This site is good http://www.btinternet.com/~pdbean/ I might ask myself as intrigued now. Anyhoo, The above should keep you going until you have more questions!!! I would be very grateful for any information relating to the marriage of Francis Furness Buckle (b 1847 in Westmorland) to Anna Charlotte Baker (b 1852 Margate) that took place in Thanet in Apr/May/Jun 1876. Anna Charlotte Baker was the daughter of William Baker (b 1816 Woodnesborough Kent) and Mary Ann Potts (b 1817 Thanet) who married in 1844 in Thanet and any information/detail of this marriage would also be much appreciated. This same William Baker was a licenced victualler (having previously been a tailor) at the Wheat Shief Inn in Ramsgate during the 1860/70/80s and if anyone has anything on this pub during this period, I would be interested to hear it. hi Suzannah, very many thanks for your reply - it is a great help and much appreciated and it opens more avenues to explore. It also prompts a few more questions if I may: You have found a burial record for William Baker in 1887 and I wondered if there was one for Mary Ann Baker who died in Oct/Nov/Dec 1881 in Thanet. Are there any memorial inscriptions available for St Peters? Mary Ann Baker nee Potts' father was John Potts born in 1792 in Thanet - is there a baptism detail for him please? John Potts married Martha Savin (seemingly in Bromley in 1812). Martha was born in 1787 in Sarre, Thanet - again, is there a baptism detail please? It seems John Potts died O/N/D 1842 in Thanet. Is there a burial detail for him? thanks again and best wishes Martin Doust ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
Hi Martin There are Inscritions for St Peter's but sadly (If not local) you have to view these at St Peter's Church office. Here is Mary's burial date. Name Mary Ann Baker Date of Burial 9 November 1881 Age 64 Abode St Peters Parish Church St Peter Ceremony Performed By W H Gibbons Curate I wasn't able to find a baptism for John Potts at St John's Margate. Nor a Margate burial for Martha. Name John Potts Date of Burial 6 December 1842 Age 51 Abode Margate Parish Church Margate St John Ceremony Performed By H B Smith Officiating Minister I do not hold records for every parish in Thanet, just a smattering. Sarre lost its church in the 13th Century so Martha may have been baptised at Birchington but I do not have these records. Good luck Suzannah ----- Original Message ---- From: Allison Doust <[email protected]> To: Suzannah Foad <[email protected]>; [email protected] Sent: Sunday, 22 November, 2009 17:18:57 Subject: Re: [Isle-of-Thanet] BUCKLE - BAKER marriage 1876 Thanet hi Suzannah, very many thanks for your reply - it is a great help and much appreciated and it opens more avenues to explore.
