Homans/Holloway born about 1819/20, in Kent area. Have no info who his parents were etc. He came to Nova Scotia between 1845 -1847 when he purchased 100 acres of land in the small community of Clam Harbour, N.S. He went by first names of John "Charles". He died in 1899 and buried in Clam Harbour. Charles, the given name he picked to be called by. He married Janet Robson, they had 6 sons and 3 dau who died couple months after their birth, names of the girls were Elizabeth, Catherine and Clarissa & were buried on the property. The six boys were named John Bruce, James, William Charles, Ebenezer, Stephen Henry (my Granfather), Edwin Isaac. He arrived with money in his pocket, purchased the land, built Lobster and Clam factory plus General Store, the store survived until 1972. I have a couple of pictures which could be Homans/Holloway. I understand that others said he changed his name. I would appreciate any info, have been on this search for over 40 years. He went by Homans, was told that was the name he picked to use by Aunt Ethel before she died. Holloway was a name that one of the men in the community said he could be. What other info do you have on this Holloway? John Charles died on March 26/ 1899 in his 80th year. I tried DNA testing on the Homans name, using my nephew who was son of my brother Ross Evans Spencer Homans Have not matched any Homans markers, not even one, however I matched 23 out of 25 for surname Ross. My brother that I just mentioned was given Ross as his first name. I will now try Holloway and see if I get any markers. Hi Again Do you have his marriage certificate/record to Janet Robson? Was it in this Country? I ask as this usually gives a fathers name? So, I can count out Homans then if that was the name that John Charles chose to use. There are many Holloway families in East Kent and the baptism for a John Holloway I found was Margate. How certain are you that your familiy came from Ramsgate?
