    3. Hi Susannah Thought this information might interest someone. I've just read a book called The Last Ditch by David Lampe, about the Resistance organisation which was set up in the UK in WW2 in case the Germans landed. There was some information about Thanet. The Resistance group leader for Thanet was Norman Steed, a farmer from Manston Grove. The group used existing tunnels in the chalk from smuggling days as hideouts. Another hideout was under a brickyard about a mile south-west of Margate. Most of the hideouts were destroyed at the end of the war. The other name mentioned in Thanet is a radio operator called Lamont. The book was originally published in 1968 and reprinted by Greenhill Press in 2007 and is a great read. Cheers, Margaret Lewington in Perth, Western Australia _________________________________________________________________ POP access for Hotmail is here!
