    3. Isle of Thanet Gazette 26/3/1910. 'ALARMING ACCIDENT, HORSE CRUSHED TO DEATH' - On Tuesday afternoon a horse belonging to Mr. W. SAYER, carting contractor, was killed under peculiar circumstances. About 1. 55pm. Charles LAWRENCE, George FOX, and another man named Brown, employed at the Fort Point promenade works, were engaged in lowering one of the heavy blocks of concrete, weighing about 19cwt., by a manual crane from the cliff top to the sands below when, by some means unexplained, the crane collapsed and the huge block fell a distance of about 30 feet. Immediately beneath it was the horse in question, in charge of William HEADLAM, Marlborough Road, and the heavy mass fell upon the poor animal, breaking its back. Death was almost instantaneous. The rods of the cart were smashed, but fortunately HEADLAM and the other men in the vicinity escaped injury. Margate Local & Family History
