Again many thanks, Suzannah. This time you have sent three familiar names in this newspaper article: John Bayly (Chairman) is the father of A.W. Bayly (Arthur Webber Bayly and Arthur), Henry Wootton and John Bayly were 4th cousins, and Robert Rapson was Henry's brother in law. John Bayly was a mayor of Margate in 1881/2 and Henry Wootton's brother, Edward Staple Wootton was a mayor of Margate in 1893/4. I wondered if the Bayly and Wootton families knew each other -- obviously the answer is yes!! Elizabeth Brooker Etobicoke, Ont. There was an Edward Rapson who was Margate Mayor in 1868-9 too. I missed finding that Edward Rapson was also a Margate Mayor, Suzannah. Henry's father was named Edward Rapson and I think this was the only Rapson family in Margate so the 1868 mayor was probably Henry's father. Such politically minded people -- that makes three mayors of Margate: John Bayly, Edward Rapson and Edward S. Wootton. I tried to look at the Mayors of Margate website but it is no longer available. The families of Rapson, Wootton and Keble, of the Gazette, lived in houses side by side on High St. for many years in Margate. Thank you so much for continuing to give us so much, Suzannah !!
