Kebles Gazette 22/12/1894.   'SHOCKING NEGLECT OF CHILDREN'- At the Margate Police Court on Wednesday, Arthur Twyman, of Victoria Cottages, Milton Road, was summoned on an adjourned charge of neglecting his daughters, Maud and Florence, in such a manner as to be likely to cause injury to their health. The evidence presented showed that the two children had been shockingly neglected by the defendant, and were in a filthy condition. Defendant stated that he had done what he could, but that he had had a lot of bad luck. The Mayor, speaking for the Magistrates, said the Bench considered it a very gross case and that the defendant would have to go to prison for six weeks with hard labour in each case, one sentence to follow on from the other.
