    3. OLD RESIDENTS DEATH - Family's 200 years at St Peter's Isle of Thanet Gazette 23rd Jan 1948 A well known resident of St Peter's for nearly half a century, Mr George STUPPLES, of 6 Nuckell's Almhouses, died on Friday at the age of 87. Since his retirement a few years ago, Mr STUPPLES was often to be seen walking slowly down the village streets and he always had a kind word and helping hand for everyone. He was born at Garlinge and left school at the age of nine to start to work as a crowboy, scaring birds from crops. During the years he worked for local farmers he learnt every branch of agriculture and dairy farming and became an expert thatcher. After leaving Garlinge he lived in Margate for nine years before moving to St Peter's where his family have resided for over 200 years. He lived at Calva Cottages, Vicargae Street, until going to the Almshouses. Mr STUPPLES leaves a widow, one son and two daughters. The funeral took place at St Pete's Churchyard on Tuesday when the Curate (the Rev W E Edwards) officiated. Margate Local & Family History
