Thanet Times 3rd March 1981 Snowdrops were in memory of baby's death A mass of snow drops in the Churchyard at St Mary's Church, MInster, were first planted on the grave of a 12 month old boy who died in 1895. The snowdrops, planted in 1896 by the bay's sisters, have multiplied during the last 85 years, says the baby's nephew, Mr Fred HARRISON of Alexandra Road, Erith. Mr HARRISON now 72, is named after the baby Frederick Samuel HUGHES, born in 1894 to Samuel and Emily HUGHES, who were married at Monkton in 1880. Mr and Mrs HUGHES settled in Hope Cottage, Minster and had five daughters in addition to Frederick. "My mother, the last sister of Frederick, lived to be 92" writes Mr HARRISON.
