Isle of Thanet Gazette 17th May 1940 MISSING - FLIGHT SERGEANT BASIL CAREY Well known in Margate, his native town, Flight Sergeant Basil CAREY, son of Mr Harry CAREY of Deal, was posted as missing Monday and up to yesterday (Thursday) there had been no news of him. Mr Harry CAREY, who was informed by telegram, was formerly associated with the Plaza Cinema Margate, and lived in the town until six months ago. His son, who is twenty one, managed the Regent Cinema before joining the Royal Air Force in April last year. A nephew of Mr George CLEVELAND, of St George's Hotel, Cliftonville, he was to have been married soon. Margate Local & Family History
