    3. 86 Years in one House Death of Mr W T SOLLEY   Isle of Thanet Gazette 24th Jan 1947     Mr William Thomas SOLLEY of Myrtle House, Canterbury Road, Garlinge, died on Thursday last week at the house in which he was born 86 years ago. The house was formerly known as Dandelion Cottage Farm, and at one time he managed it as a small holding.   Mr SOLLEY was for many years a prominent member of Garlinge Parish Council and may be remembered among older inhabitants as the man who fought for street lighting in Garlinge.   St James Church stands opposite Myrtle House and Mr SOLLEY showed considerable interest in its activities. He was a churchwarden for 26 years. His greatest wish during the war was to see the church reopened and that wish was granted in September last year.   Mr SOLLEY, whose wife died 10 years ago, leaves a daughter. His only son, Captain W SOLLEY was killed during the 1914-1918 war.   The funeral, which took place on Monday at Margate Cemetery, was preceded by a choral service in St James’ Church. The Vicar (the Rev P G Harrison) officiated and the family mourners present were Mrs J HARCOURT (daughter) Mrs W SOLLEY (daughter in law) and Mr G HARCOURT, (Grandson). 3. I must be related to William Thomas SOLLEY but not sure how. In 1890 Alice Elizabeth STUPPLE was born at Dent de Lion Farm, Garlinge. Alice was the daughter of Rosetta SAYER who was the daughter of Emma Ann SOLLEY (1831 - 1908), my gg grandmother. I would guess that William Thomas was the son of one of Emma Ann's brothers, children of James SOLLEY (1787-1861) and Eleanor GARDNER (1788-1864).
