East Kent Advertiser and Echo 29th August 1944 Funeral of Thanet Farmer Mr Stephen GOODBAN Thanet farmers have learnt with regret of the death of one of their colleagues, Mr Stephen GOODBAN, who passed away at Spratling Farm, Manston at the age of 84. In his early days, Mr GOODBAN was employed as a cowman and milk roundsman by the late Mr E PHILPOTT, of Manston. After working for Mr PHILPOTT for 26 years he took over Whitehall Farm, Ramsgate in 1906. Over 300 council houses have been built on the farm lands. Mr GOODBAN left Whitehall Farm in 1931 and took Spratling Farm.
