No, Caroline wasn't married previously according to her marriage cert (May 13th, 1888). She was 29 years old and names her father as James CHESTERMAN, Decorator. William says his father was John BUDDINGTON, Deceased, Labourer. According to the census that Suzannah quoted, John and Frank were both born in Garlinge. Would be a good idea to check the PR to see if you can find their baptisms. Perhaps Frank wasn't their son, but son of relative and brought up with this couple. Hi, Did your Chesterman family come from London as I have found a marriage cert for William Buddington to Caroline Chesterman in Islington in 1888, and do you have any birth of date at death for Frederick? Also was he in both regiments or just one of them, or I am reading it wrong. Regards Joan
I am looking for anyone with surname JEWETT or with connections to anyone with that name whose ancestors spent time in India. David
Dear Suzannah, I wonder if anyone can help me, I have a full-scale mystery on my hands! My Great grandfather, William Buddington (born 1859 in Minster in Thanet) . He was married twice, once to Harriet Spain who died in a drowning incident in 1886 and then to Caroline Chesterman. I am aware of most of his offspring (including my grandmother). Until recently I thought he had only had one child with Harriet Spain but I have recently been given some letters which reveal he had a son who was in the army (Royal Warwickshire regiment) and who died of pneumonia in Dublin in December 1901. Along with the letters from him (John William Buddington) there were also letters and the army's 'Little Book' belonging to a Frederick John Page. There were also letters from FJ Page addressed to 'mother' and mentioning by name my grandmothers siblings as brothers and sisters. I don't understand how it can be that this soldier (from the 3rd battalion Royal West Kent Regiment) could be related to my great grandparents. It's all a bit of a mystery - I wonder if you have any idea how I could start to unravel the clues? Thanking you in anticipation Suzanne Hearn

Andrew There could well be something in the local newspapers for William BRADLEY but these are on micrfiche in Margate library. You might try the Kent Police Museum. Hi, By "their son" could it have been the son of Jesse by her previous marriage, is there any idea how old he is in the picture. Regards Joan
Hi Suzannah, That's me, with the Kennett connection - James is my great-grandfather's brother. James Steven Kennett, born 1859 in Minster, Thanet, son of James Kennett and Mary Anne Setterfield. He married Jessie Hutchinson in 1887. I can only find five children for them, Florence G, Irene, Dorothy, Reginald J, and Harold E- no Robert at all - so the son Bob in the photo is a bit of a mystery. Dear Elaine, I have just come across a picture of a Walter Cullen in the Isle of Thanet Gazette for 23rd July 1982. I instantly remembered a IOT lister had Walter Cullen's in their tree. This one is Births Dec 1919 Cullen Walter S C Lipscomb Thanet 2a 2093 Died May 2001. Son of Walter Harrison Cullen 1899-1971. Walter was a painter of landscape and agricultural scenes and the article is about his one man exhibition at Broadstairs library in 1982. He was born in Ramsgate, worked as a credit controller for Pearce Signs in Westwood, went to Christ Church School and now lives in Beltinge. Happy to scan to you Suzannah From: Er3pr@aol.com Subject: [Isle-of-Thanet] Walter Harrison CULLEN Date: Sat, 8 Dec 2007 17:05:21 EST Hi Suzannah, Looking through the archives for IOT, I saw a mention of Walter H. CULLEN and was wondering if he was the son of Charles John CULLEN and Minnie BOWMAN. On my tree the H stands for HARRISON, which may be after his Aunt, Ellen Elizabeth HARRISON, who was married to George Alfred CULLEN. If it is indeed the same young man (he was born 1899, Ramsgate), would you send me a copy of his picture. You mentioned an article of those men in service dated 1914. Thank you, ~Elaine
In the Thanet Times for Feb 1977 I came across a picture of Mr and Mrs KENNETT taken outside their Antique shop in Monkton Road, Minster. Also with them is their son Bob in his Army uniform and the picture was taken 1918. I recall a lister having KENNETT's from Minster within their tree? Looking at the 1901 census, there is a James and Jessie KENNETT both aged 41, Funiture Dealers? Suzannah Margate Local & Family History

Hi Suzannah, My grandmother was Ada Annie Harlow 1869. She had three sisters and a brother. Her father was Edward Davis Harlow 1832, her mother Esther Johncock 1830. I think my great aunt Selina's husband was mayor of Margate at least once. They all seemed to farm or have butchers shops. You've told me where Ada Annie was born and the area they farmed but as I don't know Margate very well I can't place the farms. I'd be grateful for information.
