I have found it easy to take John Bayley back to a Nathaniel or Edward bayley who seem to have married sisters Sarah and Ann Norwood. Both these couples have a Nathaniel and there I will leave this research as its for another person. But I would still like the birth of sarah Ann, maybe it was a non conformist bapt. I will find John's will and send the link on. Many thanks for that best wishes Lis

    3. Hi Lis, I haven't looked for Sarah Ann's birth/baptism but I do have info on John Bayley (Bayly etc.) if you would like anything about that side of the family !! Did you see the excerpt of John's 1828 PCC will on Maureen Rawson's site? The little I have on John and Sarah's children is from that will. I do like to record the bapt of the brides and the names of her parents but somehow I missed looking for Sarah Ann's. 3. Hi Paul, I have Edward Moodey on my tree, but never followed his ancestors. He married Alice Eastland, my gg-aunt. Your post motivated me to do some more research. 1. I found a marriage on familysearch between John MOODEY and Ann ADAMS, 21 Aug 1831, Birchington. It's also at Barry White's site http://web.archive.org/web/20070813035342/http://barry-white.members.beeb.net/registers/pr_birch_m1.pdf which gives a full transcription. 2. I found 2 birth registrations for Samuel Goodbun MOODY, both in Thanet, 2Q 1849, vol 5, page 502. One in the name Samuel Goodbun MOODY and one Samuel Goodbun GOODBUN. It's unusual if the surname is indexed as GOODBUN but written as GOODBOURN on the certificate. 3. Familysearch has a christening for Samuel Goodbun MOODY, 7 Apr 1850, St John the Baptist, Margate. Only the mother Ann is listed as a parent. 4. There is also a christening on familysearch for Samson Charles MOODY, 7 Apr 1850, St John the Baptist, Margate. I don't know who he is. According to Suzannah Foad, on 8 Apr Samuel GOODBUN married Mary Ann COCKETT at the same church. I'm not sure what all these date coincidences mean. I am interested in John MOODEY's birth date of 1817. Ann ADAMS too was born about 1817 according to the census returns. If the marriage is correct, John and Ann were both only about 14 when they married. Barry White's transcription gives "Banns with consent of themselves and all others" which might mean they were under age. Did you get the birth date from the death certificate? Kind Regards, Graham Petley

    3. I did mean that it was Samuel in Canterbury aged 20, but I mistakenly put 1851, when it should read 1841. His father being recorded as William Goodburn, Porter. This lead me to find his baptism 21st Nov 1819 at St Johns to William and Elizabeth Goodburn. 3. My Great grandfather was Samuel Goodbourn Moodey, but his birth certificate had him as SAMUEL GOODBOURN son of SAMUEL GOODBOURN (a tailor) and Ann Moody, formerly Adams It seems he could have been born “out of wedlock” and eventually adopted the Moodey name—inserting an “e” at some time. Ann had 2 older children, Edward Moody b 1843 and William Moody b 1840---their father John Moody b 1817 dying 1844 I’m trying to find out about SAMUEL GOODBOURN but have had  no luck. Does anyone have any leads ? Many Thanks Paul Hobday(Never used this site before, so hope correctly!)     ________________________________ From: Joan Leary <joan.leary@ntlworld.com> To: isle-of-thanet@rootsweb.com Sent: Saturday, 8 January, 2011 18:56:44 Subject: [Isle-of-Thanet] Wraight Hi Catherine, Welcome to the list always nice when somebody new joins us. Could you clarify what you want to find out, are you looking for living family or is it the ancestors you would like to find out about. 3. Hi Joan, I want to find out more about the ancestors - both going further back in time as well as finding out more about what various people did. For example, I understand that the Cooper family in Ramsgate was associated with fishing and the lifeboat. My grandparents had a store of photos of various paternal family members and I am always interested in finding living family members who might be able to flesh out other family branches in more recent times and who might also have family photos to share as well. Kind regards Catherine On 9/01/2011, at 7:56 AM, Joan Leary wrote: > Hi Catherine, > > Welcome to the list always nice when somebody new joins us. 3. There was a Moodey/Moody reference at the start of this thread. I have: William Moody, 1891 census, Margate (RG12/728/80), 49, grocer, born Stury?, Kent; wife Anne, 49, born Margate, with five children, one of whom is Lilly, 20, artist and painter. Lilly married my great uncle, Francis Forster. They emigrated to Minnesota USA.

    3. I am new to the list and I am interested in the Isle of Thanet for several reasons. My great-great-grandfather was FRANCIS JOHN WRAIGHT (born1849, Canterbury - died 1923, Ramsgate). He married ANNE ELIZABETH BROCKMAN (born 1846, Ramsgate - died 1928, Ramsgate) daughter of SAMUEL JAMES BROCKMAN and ANN COOPER in 1870 and they lived in Ramsgate where he was a master coach builder. I believe he was also a Master of a Masonic Lodge there too. I descend from their daughter FRANCES LOUISA WRAIGHT who married SIDNEY OLIVER ALLEN. Another great-great-grandfather was THOMAS STREVENS (born 1834, St Peters - died 1919, Broadstairs). He married SUSANNAH JARVIS (born 1836, Deal - died 1920, Broadstairs) daughter of GEORGE THOMAS JARVIS and SUSANNAH KNIGHT in 1860. I descend from their son ERNEST STREVENS who married HARRIET BETSY PIGGOTT. I have already been in contact with Joe Bissett about the Piggott connection and just this week with Ian Wraight about some of the Wraight family. Any help gratefully received. I have a number of family photos although those that contain members of the wider Wraight family in the 1920's/30's are proving difficult to identify. Catherine Macaulay (nee Allen)
