    1. Marler - Clutterbuck Ramsgate
    2. suzannah.foad
    3. Found this on another site......April 2006 My gg-grandfather, Henry (aka Harry) King Marler (1848-1934 [California, USA]), is from Ramsgate, Kent, England. His parents are William Marler (1796-1867) and Elizabeth Senix King (1813-??). I am trying to search the line of his brother, William Robert Marler (1837-??). I have been able to determine that he married Eliza Grainger in 1868. They had 4 children, Frank, Eliza, Ada, & Louise (Louisa). I have determined that Ada Marler married Walter Alexander Clutterbuck in Dec 1899. I found then in the 1901 Census living at 23 Percy Road, Ramsgate and Walter is listed as a Blocker at an Ice Factory. I'd like to find out more about this line and if anyone has any information to share. Please e-mail me at lizamlizarraga@hotmail.com. -- No virus found in this outgoing message. 3. Wont be for a couple of weeks but will certainly try to find it. I was looking for a lister last week and unfortunately its very hard to find the plot numbers as there have either been worn away or just don't have a number. You have to work along by counting the spaces between the graves, also, many don't have a marker at all, just a mound of grass. Can only try! 1. The role of the Buffs as matchmaker
    2. Jackie Sinden
    3. Suzannah and list I've only been researching my family since October and am constantly amazed by the connections and coincidences I uncover. I have always wondered how my Grandad, Fred GOLDFINCH from Margate met up with my Grandmother, Ada CARPENTER from Patrixbourne near Canterbury. Given that neither family seemed to search too far and wide for their partners, the distance between their homes seemed unusual. It appears that the answer is the Buffs. I knew that two of Ada's brothers joined the Buffs but hadn't realised that two of Fred's brothers also served in the same regiment during WW1. Ada's brother James and Fred's brother Alfred became friends and premusably Ada and Fred met through them. Alfred and James served together in France. Alfred Goldfinch was left in charge of a rearguard movement, was captured when the ammunition ran out and served 3 years as a prisoner of war. He was awarded the DSO. James Carpenter was seconded to help form the new Tank Regiment. He was mentioned in Despatches and I believe was also awarded the DSO. Having found all this out it then appears that the story does not finish there. With help from member of the IOT list I discovered that Fred Goldfinch not only had the 3 brothers I was aware of, but 3 sisters as well. One died quite young, one married a top chef and the other turned out to be the unknown Flo (Florence Goldfinch) who had married Ada's brother Charlie. So the Buffs could claim to be the instigator of two marriages between the Goldfinches and the Carpenters! Many thanks to all who have helped with my research.
