    1. Ron Hobday - Wales, Sandwell
    2. David & Louise
    3. Hi everyone, I've been in touch with Ron's nephew recently who has THE book!!!! He was kind enough to scan and send the Sandwell pages to me - so if anyone wants them let me know - but be warned it takes a while to download. I will get in touch with his nephew and see if he doesn't mind giving his contact email. He said that he has only just started looking at his family tree - so he might not want to be inundated - I will find out. Louise. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Linda Wales" <cleavefarm@btinternet.com> To: <Isle-of-Thanet-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, April 20, 2006 3:06 PM Subject: Hobdays, Wales, Sandwell >A little while ago the list may recall me trying to locate Ron Hobday, as I >had discovered there was a link between the Hobdays and the Wales families. >I was unable to contact him by telephone at his last known number, so I >wrote to the address, c/o The Hobday Family or Occupier. 3. The last Phillpott I have born in Margate was John Phillpott, born 1802. He was the one who went to Bristol and married Mary Harding. His parents, I think, were John Phillpott and Mary Stokes. I'm spelling it with 2 Ls and 2 Ts, but it is quite likely that they spelled it differently. The line then goes back to George in 1580 and they were all around Margate. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Roslyn Chapman" <rosiecha@bigpond.net.au> To: "'Tricia Campbell'" <cambeul@btopenworld.com> Sent: Thursday, April 20, 2006 12:51 PM Subject: RE: [IoT] Phillpott >I have Phillpotts from Margate. 3. Don't think I can help you at the moment Shirley. The earliest Phillpott is a George born in about 1580. He could possibly be a brother of your Edward, but I've no proof at all. Tricia

I explained the reason for my request for contact and kept my fingers crossed. This morning I had a lovely letter from one of Ron's sons, to whom the letter had been passed. Both Ron and his wife Mary had died, and the house was sold, but Ron's son lived not far away, and the new owners of the house forwarded my letter on to him. 3. Dear andy, I looked up your reference HO107/469/3 Pg 35 Folio 43 in the National Archives Catalogue: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/default.asp and this is what the result is: HO 107/469 HUNDRED: Lathe of St Augustine 1841 HO 107/469 HUNDRED: Bewsborough 1841 HO 107/469 PARISH: River 1841 HO 107/469 HUNDRED: Bleangate 1841 HO 107/469 PARISH: Reculver MISSING 1841 HO 107/469 HUNDRED: Cornilo 1841 HO 107/469 PARISH: Ringswould, TOWNSHIP: Kingsdown 1841 HO 107/469 PARISH: Ripple 1841 HO 107/469 HUNDRED: Ringslow or Isle of Thanet 1841 HO 107/469 PARISH: (8)Ramsgate, TOWNSHIP: Ellington (part) It's definitely part of Ramsgate. Looks to me like the person doing the indexing just kept hitting the equivalent of the ditto key and lots of stuff ended up in Preston by Wingham. If you search just on the place "Preston by Wingham", it comes up with over 10,000 people. In 1831 the population of P by W was something like 550! If you search on the place Ramsgate, it comes up with about 550 people. Hmm, not the population of Ramsgate. Best wishes Elizabeth Andrew Bowling wrote: > Hi Everyone > > Could someone help me with an address in Ramsgate 1841 census? > (Now available at Ancestry) > > I have Camden Sq Ramsgate, also it says Preston by Wingham. > > Is this actually in Ramsgate Town or where? > > Many thanks Andy > >
