Susanna: I can't believe you found this article. Strangely, the accident occured exactly 100 years after Samuel's death. Very interesting, and sad. Thank you, Yvonne
Dear all Thanks for your help I looked on that 1881 census for hours trying all sorts of names, thanks for saving my mental state. As with all family trees one problem solved leads to another mystery. Thanks for images sent as well. Happy ANZAC day. Debbie
Dear Elizabeth, Among the Sandwell information sent to me was the marriage of Nicholas SANDWELL to Mary PARIS on 28 Dec 1693 at Monkton. Her maiden name was passed down in the family as a forename. Regards, Madie
The unusual forename of Paris caught my attention so, although I am not actively researching the name Sandwell, I thought I would pass along this little bit about Paris Sandwell. In my search for Bayly in St. Peter Thanet I found in Willis' Marriage Licenses an entry dated 1761 for Paris Sandwell of St Peter Thanet mariner wid.and Sarah Bayly of same spinster. Samuel Coward of same mariner bond 27 Dec 1760. Marriage took place 28 Dec 1760 St Peter Thanet. License entry is dated 1761 but 1760 is in body of license and parish entry. I have this Paris as bapt 23 Jun 1722 son of Paris Sandwell and Ann. I have not searched for the death of his first wife, the date of his first marriage, nor their children. Paris and Sarah had a son they gave the name of Paris who was bapt. 5 Nov 1761 St Peter Thanet. I wonder where the forename of Paris originated in the Sandwell family. Sarah, baptised St Peter Thanet 3 Dec 1732, was the daughter of Nathaniel Baily and Sarah Lister. She was baptised under Baily but the marriage license and the marriage had her surname spelled as Bayly. Elizabeth Brooker of Etobicoke, Ont. Canada
Like Tricia, replied to Debbie offline. Found Wells family in 1871, 1881,1891 and 1901. Looks as though Sydney was adopted by the Wells family by 1901. All I can say was that was of my husband's relatives appeared to have a child at 60 - when I looked into it, it was the mum's daughter's child that was taken on as daughter by the grandparents. But I'm sure someone else can enlighten you (she said, hopefully!!!!!) Jeremiah Sandwell married Sarah Fagg. In the Sandwell chart fig.8B she is given as born 1736, died 1834, having children from 1775 to 1794. If really born in 1736, she would have been 58 when the last child was born. Also Jeremiah was born 1753. Do you think her true birth was 1756? Can any of the Sandwell listers confirm please. Madie
