Also, I could have a look on some French Hugenots pages to see whether I can find the name or a variation thereof. I happen to have quite a few Hugenot connections and have done some extensive research. Also know a few French (hobby) genealogists. Just let me know. The two different dates are probably from the banns (30 Sept) and the marriage itself (11 Oct). Btw, I think there's a definite connection with my Whales/Wales family there, seeing the name Stephen pops up. Hi Bryn, This is very interesting to me, as I had a number of ancestors in St Peters, including a few landlords of the White Swan pub! Yes, please, I would greatly appreciate a copy of the census, and well done for all the hard work! Not sure how much of St Peters it covers, but worth a look definitely. Thanks in anticipation. Hello everybody! Recently Elaine asked if anyone had a Mercy Wales, daughter of John and Sarah of Birchington, in their tree. I replied that I did, and that when she was married Alice Wales was a witness. Unfortunatley I couldn't find any Alice. However - I have just been looking at Barry White's site, and there is an Alice Wells noted as being the daughter of John and Sarah of Birchington. Her date of baptism is given as 31 Jan 1802, which fits very neatly into a gap in the birth dates of the children of my John and Sarah. Does anyone have the opportunity of looking at the original record, to see if it could possibly be Wales and not Wells? Mind you I have seen others in the family use that spelling - I think it just depended on their accent and the literacy of the clerk!!!! Also - I have seen Harriet (Harriot) Wales/Wells given as baptised on 1 Jan 1808 and 1 Jun 1806. I wonder if this is the same person, but a different variation on the transcript. Oh how I w! ish I was nearer!! Regards to all. Linda
