    1. BRISTOW and PARAMOR Railway Accidents 1863
    2. suzannah.foad
    3. A months ago I listed two graves of Robert J Paramor and Thomas Bristow who sadly lost their lives on the Kent Coast Railway in 1863, a few months apart The Kentish Gazette Tuesday 13th January 1863 Serious Accident On Wednesday (7th) about noon, an accident of rather a serious nature happened on the Ramsgate Extension of the Kent Coast Railway. It appears that several workmen were engaged in building a bridge at the four cross road ( this is the Bridge near College Road vets), near Drapers, when a slip of earth pf several tons took place, carrying away the scaffolding and burying all of the men, smashing the leg of a man named BRISTOW, both above and below the knee. A man named CHRISTIAN, sustained a fractured skull, and another man, fractured ribs. The earth was speedily removed and BRISTOW taken to the Sea Bathing Infirmary, where it was found necessary to amputate the limb, the other two were attended to by Mr Willy, Surgeon, and after wards conveyed to their homes at Ramsgate. The three injured men are all single and under the age of twenty years. BRISTOW still remains in a precarious state. Thomas BRISTOW Passed away the following day after the accident, whilst still in the Sea bathing Infirmary, he was buried in Grave Number 559, Section N, Consecrated Ground (have Photo of grave) Kentish Gazette Tuesday 19th March 1863 Accident on Railway Yesterday (Monday) A Serious accident happened to a young man named Robert PARAMOR, (who was) residing in Churchfield Cottages. From information obtained on the spot, it appears the unfortunate man was what is termed a driver, on works in the cutting, between Buenos Ayres and Hartsdown Road, and while in an act of detaching a horse from a truck he fell and the wheel of the truck, and also of the three others, passed over both of his legs, completely smashing one of his ankles and severing an artery. The poor man was immediately removed to his home and his injuries were attended to by Mr Owen and Dr Pittock. His Condition deteriorated on Tuesday 31st March, the Kentish Gazette reported with this headline and just a few words, Robert PARAMOR's passing The Late Railway Accident The man PARAMOR, who was injured by the trucks running over his legs, as reported a fortnight since, expired on Sunday, after enduring great suffering. He was buried on the 4th April 1863, next to his late colleague Thomas BRISTOW, in plot number 554, Section N Consecrated Ground. Robert PARAMOR died at his home in Churchfield Cottages, they were situated off Kidman's Row, and Kidman's Row ran from Charlotte Place to Churchfields. Buenos Ayres is course, still in existence today, but what was known as Hartsdown Road in 1863 is now the Eastern end of All Saints Avenue. -- No virus found in this outgoing message. 2. Bryn Town
    3. Just a short note to thank everyone for their kind comments (and to the lovely Suzannah for presiding over us ). I've been overwhelmed by the response. Eventually I hope to incorporate my research into a web site .... but that's still a little way off. For those who didn't see my previous email the offer still stands ............. "As part of a research project I have transcribed the complete 1851 Census Enumerator's Books for that part of St Peters covered by Enumerator's District 1e. The transcription is a Microsoft Excel document. If anyone would like a no obligation copy please let me know. All I ask in return is that recipients proof read the document and advise me of any errors." Bryn Kincumber, NSW, Australia PS I should make it clear that this is a verbatim transcription. I have not attempted to correct any errors made by the enumerator.
