    3. A lot of people married in Portsea, it was at the far end of the coastguard run that covered Kent. I note that you had a connection to the Chatham as well, so a Naval/Coastguard connection is quite likely. I have ancestors who were living in Folkestone with their parents, then went to Portsea to marry their husbands. Someone who knows more about the Naval history may be able to say why Portsea was used. 2. Pam (Ntl)
    3. Hi, would anyone have any information on George Redwood Wright or his family? In 1861 they were in the Isle of Thanet Union Workhouse - he is described as a discharged Marine and I believe that he died before the 1871 Census. His daughter Maria married Frederick Tom Porter and they lived in St Margaret's Bay until at least 1901. They then moved to Shirley, Southampton. I have traced back to where the Redwood name enters the family but would be grateful for any information on the Wrights or the Porters, also anything on Emma Redwood Wright (another of George's daughters) who married Samuel Bushell (a retired ship's master and considerably older than Emma). They had a daughter Harriet, born a few months before they married (the family legend has it that they eloped). Hope someone can help - both Minster and Monkton feature in family "legend" but sadly there is no-one left who can remember any details. Kind regards Pam Newton

    1. [ISLE-OF-THANET] Post request please
    2. I wish to post the following request for information. Thanks. Helen Edmond CHAMPION and Elizabeth FOARD, late 1700s I am seeking information relating to the whereabouts and further children of Edmond CHAMPION and Elizabeth FOARD between 1791 and 1800, probably the south coast of England. Edmond Champion (born London 1764) married Elizabeth FOARD, probably in the Margate area, about 1785. Occupation not known. Known children were: Elizabeth (1786-1786); Sarah Elizabeth (1787-1874); Edmond (1789- ); Clara Graham (1790-1791), all at St John, Margate. Then there is a period during which the location of Edmond and Elizabeth is unknown but it is thought that additional children, John (1793) and Charles (1795) and others? were born. Edmond and Elizabeth next turn up in Guernsey by 1800, where Anna (b. Dec 1799, not necessarily Guernsey) and Harriet (b. Dec 1803) were both baptised at St Peter Port town church on 9 January 1804. Subsequently, Edmond was the Ordnance Store Keeper on Jersey for 24 years, dying in 1831. Any help to fill in the missing years very welcome.
