    1. [ISLE-OF-THANET] In Memoriam: Staff Sergeant Major Frederick Edward Piggott
    2. Suzannah Foad
    3. Dear Joe, I went on the War Graves Tour today at St Peter's Churchyard and saw your Grandfather's grave. Such a shame his Brass Penny is missing. There was a service at 11am with over 70 people there, paying tributes to Frederick Piggott and the Casulaties from both Wars. Very touching Regards Suzannah This Remembrance Day, on behalf of our entire family, I wish to memorialize my Grandfather, Frederick Edward Piggott, who was killed in action on the first day of the Gallipoli invasion, April 25, 1915. Please take just a moment to review the life and passing of this remarkable man. http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=12154520 In fondest memory, Horace F. "Joe" Bissett, Jr.

We owe a debt of gratitude to Mr. Les Cullen, who adopted grandfather's grave site and was responsible for cleaning it up. He made a presentation to the Mayor back on 1 April, and prepared a wonderful dossier on grandfather for that occasion. 2. LAWRENCE BRIDGER
    3. For people who don't already know Ancestry have put on line millions of names of passengers who emigrated to America. According to the radio the site is free, on the site it says free during November. Anyone with family members who left this country for America should take the opportunity to search for their ancestors. Its easy to use, I found my members immediately, and you can download the actual passenger lists. Good Hunting. Laurie Bridger.

    2. Henry Harvey
    3. Hi Listeners Can anyone help I am up against a brick wall. I am trying to find out information of John Harvey who married Hannah Brett in 1746. Unfortunately they both died in 1748. they had a son Stephen b1746 and a son Thomas b1747. I think they originated from Minster. Kent. Also some one sent me a list of thousands of Harvey names which I accidently erased from my computer. If the gentleman is still on Rootsweb in Austrailia who sent it to me sees my request, would you please email the details again. It would be very much appreciated. _________________________________________________________________ Be the first to hear what's new at MSN - sign up to our free newsletters! http://www.msn.co.uk/newsletters

    1. [ISLE-OF-THANET] Thanet Pubs
    2. Suzannah Foad
    3. The Powell Arms in Birchington Square is a good long standing pub that has been the centre of the village for over 300 odd years. Many of the local Labourers and farmers would have used this pub which is right next door to Birchington Church. Westgate doesn't have too many pubs being a more exclusive area at the time many Victorian pubs were being built, so more Hotels than anything else. Not the case today though. The Bridge Hotel in the small High Street of Westgate is quite good and you can have a walk through the town after and if not too cold, the Seafront. In Beach Road is the Nottingham Castle which serve Food all day. Garlinge, only really has the Hussar on the Canterbury Road which is also a good hotel, and the Rodney though they do food, I have no idea what its like in there. Have a fab time either way Regards Suzannah Dear List This is a bit off topic but I don't know who else to ask. I am coming down to Thanet for some family nostalgia. Please can anyone recommend a decent pub for lunch in Birchington, Westgate or Garlinge. Your help appreciated Sandra Ager

    3. You might try the Smuggler's Inn just off the square in Birchington. It serves full course meals, but also has a snug to one side for drinks and pub fare. It is a listed building from the early (I think) 17th century. It's also the house where my grandfather grew up. There is an "N" in the outside chimney that was that of an earlier Neame occupier, probably William Neame, (though the N is backwards.) When I was visiting with Alan Neame, he said that such decorations were usually added to the chimney when it was repointed, rather than when it was first built. Anyway, you are probably more interested in the food, which I remember as being quite good, though others will doubtless have more recent info. Cheers, L. Neame -----Original Message----- From: isle-of-thanet-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:isle-of-thanet-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of dave ager Sent: November 3, 2006 12:11 PM To: ISLE OF THANET Subject: [ISLE-OF-THANET] THANET PUBS Dear List This is a bit off topic but I don't know who else to ask.
