I will also add my HEWETT interest to the list, as has the very lovely Trisha! All contact will be welcome. Cheers, Lesley xx for Trisha
By sheer coincidence, the current issue of "Around Kent" carries an article advertising KCC's Archive and Local History Service. KCC are inviting the public's views on this service, and in particular public access to the records. A consultation document is available on their website: www.kent.gov.uk/leisure-and-culture/archives-and-local-history/news-from-the -archives or by calling 01622 694267, or e-mailing: [email protected] If any listers are inspired to make their views known, they need to make contact by April 30th. ---

Hello everyone, I should like to register my interest in the following names - Hewett and Tatham, in and around Birchington, and Minster-in-Thanet. Is anyone out there related? Hi all, I'm just posting my family interest for the TESTER family of Margate/Herne. My ggg grandparents were JOHN TESTER c1798 - 1846 Herne Bay and Jane BRICE 1797 Beltinge. Regards, Lesley Miller ([email protected])
Barbara, Thank you so much. I must have had a very senior moment as I was absolutely sure I had checked and rechecked IGI for children of Kirby and Ann Curling and found nothing before I posted my request. Now the ones you found come up right away for me. Janis Kirby had previously found Ann baptised 1762 at Wootton with the other children I was aware of so this means batch I003786 is Wootton. It is interesting that IGI only has two of the children baptised at Wootton. I now know of six. Your finding is very significant as we now know the family were in Wootton by 1748 the year after Kirby married. Sometime after 1762 when Ann was baptised the family moved to Sandwich where Elizabeth was baptised in 1764(she died there in 1765). The Gentleman's Magazine April 1762 lists Kirby Curling of Wooton Kent, dealer - Bankrupt. So the poor chap probably had to move! This still leaves a gap between 1748 and 1755 with no children whereas after 1755 they had one every year or two. Although the family might have moved from Wootton between 1748 and 1755 and then returned I think I have to look harder at Wootton. I can't thank you enough for putting me straight. Best wishes, Clive. ________________________________ From: Barbara Callcott <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Tuesday, 7 April, 2009 12:35:49 PM Subject: Re: [Isle-of-Thanet] CURLING baptisms 1747 - 1755 A parent search of IGI gives 3 children for Kirby CURLING and Ann: Mary CURLING christened 16 AUG 1748 , Kent, England from Batch I003786 Ann CURLING Christening: 09 FEB 1762 , Kent, England also from Batch I003786 Elizabeth CURLING 08 FEB 1764 St Peter'S, Sandwich, Kent, England from batch 9004137 The 1748 christening supports your theory of children before 1755. Kirby CURLING of Barham married Ann Denne of Reculver in 1747 at Reculver and they had five children baptised at Wootton near Barham between 1755 and 1762. The interval between marriage and the first baptism at Wootton suggests there may have been other children in this period. Any help in finding CURLING baptisms between 1747 and 1755, parents Kirby CURLING and Ann, would be very much appreciated. They do not appear to be at Barham or Wootton. Given strong family links with Thanet it is possible the children were baptised there (or at least very near, perhaps in the Reculver area). Dear Fiona, Chris Dixon appears to have opened a door in my brick wall, coming up with the two richards in the one census and all the data appears to make sense. It appears that this family didn't make a habit of giving second names to their offspring as on the census only Richard and Jane's daughter, Jane E. has a middle initial. >From the census info from Chris, Richard (the father) would have been born about 1790 in Ramsgate.
