The 1851 census has R.C. married, aged 26, a Fish Hawker, born in Ramsgate, a Prisoner in Pentonville Prison, Islington. Have been unable to find anyone to fit all details, on the 1861 census, to identify who R.C. was, but this might be helpful to a lister.
Dear Suzannah As I have heard nothing from you since 2nd April when you asked whether I could wait until Monday I presume you were unable to find anything in the local papers regarding James Francis KEEN. Thanks for trying anyway. Regards: Doris
Hi Doris I did reply the week after your request saying I could not find anything in the Broadstairs and St Peter's Gazette or the Thanet Advertiser. There is still the Isle of Thanet Gazette which I didn't get access to after the Museum shut. Possibly my email went in your spam or is till floating around? Sorry either way Regards Suzannah ________________________________ From: Doris Frost <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Saturday, 16 May, 2009 12:49:59 PM Subject: [Isle-of-Thanet] Atempted Murder Dear Suzannah As I have heard nothing from you since 2nd April when you asked whether I could wait until Monday I presume you were unable to find anything in the local papers regarding James Francis KEEN. I would be very grateful if anyone has a directory for this period if they could see who was resident at 33 Price Avenue Margate at this time. It could be Hobday, Douglas, or Hopper.........or something else entirely. I need this to prove a line I am researching. Any help would be appreciated. Sandi Halling in NZ
Hi There Welcome to the Isle of Thanet (IOT) Mailing list I have a 1921 Electoral Role and at 33 Prices Avenue is Frederick Ronald Day, Frederick William Day and a Gertrude Day. In 1929 its still Frederick Day by 1930 Mrs Gertrude Day. So, I would assume the DAY family to be ther ein 1923. Are there any "Homans" in the Thanet phone book? I'd expect to find a fair few "Holloway". Just checked the Medway one and find 1 entry for "Homan". Quite a few for "Holman" and 1 for "Holmans". Not sure why a community would tell a newcomer what name he can use. Maybe a religious community? Hi There Welcome to the IOT list. You say Homans/Holloway. If I was looking for a baptism, which surname do you wish me to look for, did he go by both? I can find a John Holloway born at Margate 1821 Thanks Suzannah ----- Original Message ---- From: Jacqueline Duncan <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Friday, 8 May, 2009 6:23:32 PM Subject: [Isle-of-Thanet] Surnames: Homans and Holloway Hello: Looking for above surnames in Ramsgate. Homans/Holloway born about 1819/20, in Kent area. Have no info who his parents were etc. He came to Nova Scotia between 1845 -1847 when he purchased 100 acres of land in the small community of Clam Harbour, N.S. He went by first names of John "Charles". He died in 1899 and buried in Clam Harbour. Charles, the given name he picked to be called by. He married Janet Robson, they had 6 sons and 3 dau who died couple months after their birth, names of the girls were Elizabeth, Catherine and Clarissa & were buried on the property. The six boys were named John Bruce, James, William Charles, Ebenezer, Stephen Henry (my Granfather), Edwin Isaac. He arrived with money in his pocket, purchased the land, built Lobster and Clam factory plus General Store, the store survived until 1972. I have a couple of pictures which could be Homans/Holloway. I understand that others said he changed his name. I would appreciate any info, have been on this search for over 40 years.
