    3. Dear Listers I am very grateful for all the information many of you have given me re John and Arabella BEALE. The marriage entry didn't give their parents names which I understand is quite common. It says they are OTP so I presume they had both lived in Margate for some time. Would someone tell me how I go about getting a copy of John's will please. I have found that Arabella also left a will. I have read up about Benjamin BEALE and the Beale bathing Machine and have been fascinated with the story. At some stage hopefully I will find a connection, however tenuous, between John and Arabella BEALE and Benjamin. Kind Regards Mary Australia

    2. Dear Suz, That's news to me. Thank you so much. I'll have to do some research to see who he was; possibly one buried at Margate St John's leading to a family squabble over who was entitled to use of his pew. Ours only came to Thanet (from Blean & Ash) in the early 1800s. Interesting. 3. Benjamin died aged 58 years in 1775 and was buried at Draper's Hospital on St.Peter' Road. (Being a Quaker) Born 1717 Benjamin married Elizabeth Bindlock of Canterbry in 1740, she lived to be 92 dying in 1806!! Benjamins father was a Glover called Thomas born c.1690 and died 1747/8. So you'd have to work back from John Register of Births belonging to the Quarterly Meeting of Kent from 1770 to 1831 Full Name John Beale   Date of Birth  11 November 1781   Place of Birth  Drapers Near Margate Place of Birth , Drapers Near Margate   Parish of Abode John Baptist In The Isle Of Thanet   County of Abode Kent   Registration Town/County Kent   Parents   Father  James Beale   Father's Profession Husbandman   Mother Mary Beale   Can send orginal image Also, parents marriage Register of Marriages belonging to the Monthly Meeting of Folkestone, Kent from 1752 to 1780   Groom Name James Beale   Bride Name Mary Kember   Groom's Profession Husbandman   Date of Marriage  14 May 1772   Place of Marriage  Birchinton Registration Town/County Folkestone, Kent   Groom's Abode Margate St Johns Isle Of Thanet, Kent   Groom's Parents   Groom's Father James Beale   Groom's Mother Jane   Bride's Parents   Bride's Father Richard Kember   Bride's Mother Sarah     A James Beale married a JANE CONSTABLE    21 OCT 1738   Saint Laurence (Thanet), Kent, England  (IGI) Maybe James was the brother of Benjamin and son of Thomas as I know Thomas had two sons. 3. Mary In the 1841 census, Arabella Beale is listed as being 60 years old and not from Kent which would suggest that Arabella was born between 1777 and 1781 . There is a 1780 IGI christening entry for an Arabella Line: Arabella Line / Christening: 20 Sep 1780 - Saint Giles, Reading, Berkshire, England / Father: William Line / Mother: Sophia The mother's name is Sophia. John & Arabella Beale's first child was a daughter called Sophia, Here is the IGI entry: Sophia Beale / Birth: 20 Jun 1803 / Christening: 24 Jul 1810 - Saint Johns Hawley Square-Wesleyan, Margate, Kent, England / Father: John Beale / Mother: Arabella Robin

I can't believe the coincidence - I finally got around to going to Minster last week to check out the churchyard, looking for Buddingtons - it was rather disappointing but I did talk to some interesting people and was told about a local historian, based in the library. I went there and didn't find him but (you probably already know this) was able to look on Ancestry.com for free! Next time I'll go properly prepared!
