Carol, Your great uncle's nickname indicates he may be Native-American. Do you know if this is the case? My father, Bud Johnson Isbell, son of Daniel Vorus Isbell, son of John Sinclair Isbell,? who passed away in 1981 when I was young and had never thought to ask details, told me his grandmother was a full-blood Cherokee. It's my understanding that there are?Cherokee Isbells who reside in Oklahoma, from?the Trail of Tears march, but I don't know more than that. Thanks for the question. Whether William Frank Isbell had a Native American maternal line or not, I've no idea. But his nickname "Bald Eagle" came from the fact he was one of the earliest ballplayers to shave his hair or cut it very short. I have some old baseball cards of him and you can find a lot about him on the internet. Eve Wilder Cymmerman used to be on this list and I believe her grandmother was a first cousin of Frank. There's an article at Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Isbell Here's an outline of his ancestry: 1. Richard Isbell born c1648 in St. Stephens by Launceston, Cornwall, England + Lydia Blight married 9 Oct 1672 in St. Stephens 2. Henry Isbell b. 20 NOV 1679 + Grace 3. Richard Isbell b. 29 Aug 1742 + Susanna 4. Richard Isbell b. c1780 + unknown 5. Richard Isbell b. c1819 England (in the 1850 Trenton, NJ census) + Eliza Jane 6. John Newton isbell b. 13 Sept 1845 Trenton, New Jersey+ Julia Biance Alzade Lawton 7.
