    3. Hi, Jeanette, >From the age given (about age 20 in 1779), he could be Henry, the son of your William Isbell and Anne Dillard Isbell, since that Henry was born 3 Oct. 1761, but I don't know that for sure. William's supposed brother Henry Isbell Jr. had a son Henry III who died after 1818 in Kentucky, and I've never seen a definite birthdate for him though some say 1759 and others say 1766, while some say he was born as early as 1743 and I'm not sure what all these theorized ages are based on. Joan Cobb's book, BOUND FOR THE PROMISED LAND, says: "HENRY ISBELL (III) was born about 1759 according to his pension application (S35461). Henry III served in Captain Ballard’s Co., Col. Francis Eppes’ VA Regiment, in the Revolutionary War, joining in Mecklenburg Co. in the spring of 1776. This is the same unit that Pendleton Isbell joined. He served in this unit one year. He re-enlisted as a private in Captain John Brent’s Company, Col Robert Lawson’s Virginia Regiment from two years. He fought in the battles of Brandywine, Germantown and Monmouth." This Henry Isbell, as the pension indicates, was born c1759 evidently in VA., and was in Jessamine County, KY. in 1818 when his pension started and in 1835 was in Bullitt Co., KY., a veteran of the Virginia Line. So whether he was the same one who enlisted 12/23/77 in the IV Regiment of Continental Light Dragoons and listed as a deserter 4//11/79 (broke out of the guard house 4/10/79 according to the newspaper article). is anybody's guess. You wouldn't think he could have gotten a pension except that he apparently enlisted several different times and might have succeeded in keeping the less favorable service separate. Or that could have been a cousin, either the son of William or another brother or cousin of William or Henry Jr. "Col. Maylan"(sic) in the article should be Col. Stephen Moylan. I don't know who Anne Dillard's father was. I've seen some where some people say she was a daughter or granddaughter of Nicholas Dillard, Lewis Dillard, and some other names suggested but don't know which if any is correct. I don't think I've seen anything on Merry Dillard. You say that name is mentioned in an Isbell will? I think I missed that.
