I've been looking for more siblings of Temple Elliott Isbell Sr. for years. This week I have been working on the descendants of his sister Lettice Livingston Isbell who married Michael Barre. Michael Barre was listed as a witness on many of the documents signed by Temple Elliott Isbell. He was also listed on the Warren County, Kentucky census with Temple Isbell in 1820 and 1830. One of their children was: Matilda Franklin Barre, born December 16, 1816. She married Benjamin T. Johns whom Temple referred to as, "T. Johns" in a letter written while he was visiting Warren County, Kentucky after his move to Jo Daviess County, Illinois. It was during this visit he witnessed his, "sister Barre and niece Mary Ann Barre being put unto the waters by Young(er) Weatherspoon, a baptist preacher...". Matilda died November 17, 1912 in Warren Co., Kentucky. They also had a son named Washington L. Barre, born in June of 1829 and died in 1878 in Warren Co., KY. He married Sirilda (sp) E. Sheets September 20, 1852 in Warren Co., KY and as far as I can tell they only had one child, Alice Barre who never married. I am still working on the several other siblings but wanted to share this much with all on the list. A letter written by Temple E. Isbell to his son in 1841 mentions his sister Barre and his niece Mary Ann Barre being baptized by Younger Witherspoon (Weatherspoon) in Warren County, Kentucky. These two Barre children above are the newest connection I have found showing the relationship between Michael Barre and Lettice Isbell, sister of Temple Elliott Isbell Sr. Shane Huff Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. While searching death records I found Henry ISBELL, 17 yr old prisoner of war, died March 11, 1862 in St. Louis, Missouri, he is buried in Bellefontain Cemetery. This is not my Henry, but I though someone might be interested. Marie in Florida
Tawny, Thank you for your response. I checked the lineage and I know his parents, grandparents, and great grandparents were not Native Americans, but came to Kansas from New York, and England before that. I will check the lineage a little more closely to see if you are right. However, my Frank Isbell got the nickname "Bald Eagle" when he played professional baseball for The Chicago White Sox. In 1906 his team was good enough to play in the World Series, where Frank set a record of 3 doubles in one game that has been tied but never broken. Hello Shirley, Guess you haven't received my card yet. I am running a bit late this year. Bud was discharged from N.Home yesterday, but has been in bed all day. I think it is going to be just like before and he will not make an effort to do better. Still no word from our son with the brain disease. I have prayed and prayed that he would call and come for Christmas, but doesn't appear that it will happen. I just had a great time at Jane's for the wedding. I flew out of Evansville on Thursday and returned on Monday. It was a wedding of a lifetime.... Just beautiful. It was so difficult to leave Jane all alone. She is walking much slower now. The little stockings you made me sure feel good in this weather. The wind is terrible today. Took gifts to Mabel yesterday. She said she was so weak and that she didn't want to go to Don's (her stepson) for Christmas. It was the first time she didn't walk me to the door. She had asked that I get a box of candy just in case she did go to Don's, but was afraid she would forget she had it. When I called Don today to remind her when he picked her up, he said she was already on the way and that his son was picking her up as they were having the dinner today. I will call her tonight or tomorrow, but I am sure she will be exhausted. We are having Christmas dinner here around 2:00 on the 25th. There is a Mass for our son who passed away and my parents that morning at 9:00 and I didn't want to have to rush. Our little Emma is Mary, Mother of Jesus, at the Christmas Eve Mass so I will be attending that also. Austin is an Emporer. Our older granddaughter has to work and will be here Thurs. and asked that we save her some food. I pray that you and your family will have a Blessed Christmas and a Healthy and Happy New Year. Love, Mary Lou
