    1. [IRVIN-L] Advice re SPAM
    2. Donna Brand Higgins
    3. Hi gang, I'm sorry if any of you got the smut mail today. I want to assure you, the folks at RootsWeb have the problem handled. However, in an attempt to educate those who may not be aware of how to handle SPAM. Today this was the best most concise advice received about how to handle it, so I've forwarded it to you. Most reputable Internet Service Providers have a way to block this from your personal mail. In addition there are other sources for reporting what comes through RootsWeb. Send it to your list host. The host will forward it to the proper place at RootsWeb control. Respectfully, donna ---------- > To: listowners-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: Advice re SPAM > Date: Wednesday, January 27, 1999 6:46 PM > > I received some SPAM at my personal email address and reported it to my > server, PacBell, and sent along the SPAM with expanded headers. > > I received a response from PacBell saying they were taking care of the > matter. They also offered the following advice: > > When you receive SPAM, sometimes you will see at the bottom > instructions on how to reply to be removed from the list. > However, PacBell, suggested that this NEVER be done. When you do this, > they know will then know for sure that you did get their stuff and now > they have a good email address connected to you and you will continue to > get not only their SPAM, but SPAM from others.
