Alan and other cousins- The above Latin is from a wonderful book about the Irwins of Iowa which I received from a new-found cousin, an Irwin who lives on a farm in that state. The Latin is from an Irvine device in a history of the Irvings of Bonshaw. I think that MY forebears are IRVINES, but actually we are all the same very large family which originated in Ayrshire, Scotland and now lives in many places around the globe. The translation of the Latin is "vigorous under the sun and under the shade." Seems to cover about everything. Live and be strong. Susanne Bartlett
