I usually check records out if they involve Ervin's from North or South Carolina. I have two Robert Ervin's who have a James Ervin and Elizabeth as their parents: Robert Ervin #175 (b. 1706 in Ulster Prov, County Down, Ireland d. 1774 in St. Johns Parrish SC) His Wife: Susannah Ervin #176 (no info) His Father: James Ervin #177 aka James Irvine (b. abt 1685 Ireland, d. 7/31/1776 about 3 o'clock, in South Carolina) His Mother: Elizabeth James #178 (b. Northern Ireland/Wales, d. 12/1/1782) The other one was from the 1800's, and evidently died young. -----Original Message----- From: ED ERWIN [mailto:ww4o@ioa.com] Sent: Sunday, February 28, 1999 11:52 AM To: IRVIN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [IRVIN-L] Irvin, Ervin & Urvin I would think this is a guessed spelling. In other words, just spelled as it sounded. Probably not a historical spelling. Do you know if James or his wife could read and write. I know my ggrandfather and ggrandmother did not know exactly how to spell their names. The clerk recorded his name as Robert Ervin and Robert's parents as James Ervin and "Elizabeth". I am unertain as to Elizabeth's maiden name but it may have been Jarrett. In McDowell Co, NC records, that marriage(if it is the correct one) was recorded by the clerk as "Irvin" in the marriage Bond and again probably spelled as it "sounded". And guess what? Its has changed again-----Ed Erwin, Arden, NC -----Original Message----- From: Lyn <lyne@theriver.com> To: IRVIN-L@rootsweb.com <IRVIN-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Sunday, February 28, 1999 10:59 AM Subject: [IRVIN-L] Irvin, Ervin & Urvin >Found g g grandfather James Irvin and gg grandmother Sarah Elizabeth Luckey >(m April 13 1851) on the Tuscaloosa AL marriage records listed as James >Urvin.
