    3. Thanks for the reply Julia. I see that your James Robert is a few generation earlier. Its a nightmare with our families naming the the children in each generation with the same names in the same order. I was thinking that perhaps my James, father of my James Robert may be descended from the generations prior to your James Robert. You might look, at your convenience, for a possible line descending from one of your Johns or James prior to your James Robert. About all I know about my gggrandfather is that he was known as James Irvin or James Ervin and was married twice. One of these marriages was to an "Elizabeth". Children of his first marriage were 3 sons: James, John, and James Robert(my ggrandfather). He had several children of his second marriage possibly named Eliza and Alfred but I am not certain about the second set of children. I know that he joined the Confederacy as an older man, probablyin Homeguard Duty and died during the Civil War but I have not found any records of the Homeguards for either NC or SC. I have the Census of Haywood County showing John Ervin, brother of my ggrandfather, who was a Confederate Veteran according to the family story, and that Census of 1870 shows john as being born in SC. Apparently the family moved from SC to NC sometime between Johns birth about 1834 and Roberts birth abt 1851. We do know that my ggrandfather Robert always said he was a lot younger than his brothers. He was a child during the War and his brothers both enlisted and survived. The oldest brother, James, died sometime abt 1905 in a home for Conf. Vets in Raleigh. I have not been able as yet to find records of such a home or care facility. If I get another idea on this, I will advise and I appreciate your time in checking your mother's work--Thank you very much--Ed Erwin, Arden, NC -----Original Message----- From: Julia Christianson <juliac@patriot.net> To: IRVIN-L@rootsweb.com <IRVIN-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Monday, November 16, 1998 10:10 PM Subject: [IRVIN-L] NC/SC Ervins >Hi, Ed.
