    2. Elizabeth Russon
    3. Hi, I have hit a brick wall on my Irvine research. My ancestor was William Irvine born 1866 in Bridgestone, Glasgow. His parents were Andrew Irvine and Janet Frazer. Andrew Irvine was born 1835 in New Monkland, Lanarkshire. His parents Alan Irvine and Mary Love were married in May 1830. There is no further mention of Alan Irvine. I don't know if he was originally from the parish or an import. The only Alan Irvine I can find in the IGI is from St. Monance(Monans) Fife which is an odd part of Scotland to come from and end up in Lanarkshire. I also notice a bunch of Irvines on Orkney. Any clues out there? Thanks, Elizabeth Russon

    2. Donna Brand Higgins
    3. Hi Guys, Our new web sites will be down this week-end. I've included the original message for your information. It will be only a short span of time, but I know that those of you who work a regular 8 hour day do a lot of research during this time. donna ---------- > To: GenConnect-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: [GenConnect-L] *** Important GenConnect Announcement *** > Date: Thursday, January 14, 1999 1:04 PM > > GenConnect will be down for a bit on Saturday night and Sunday morning, > January 16 and 17, 1999, while it is being moved to a new box (bigger and > faster). > > You will not have to change any links, there's nothing that you need do. > This is simply to let you know that GenConnect will be down for a period. > > No "official" announcement will be made when it is back up. 1. [IRVIN-L] Fw: Index Book Mark
    2. Donna Brand Higgins
    3. Hi all, Yesterday I sent you all a book mark for the GenConnect Index. As of today the ladies at GenConnect have made the final changes to the Index. The book mark is almost the same except the suffex is not "htm" now its "html" so all that's needed is to simply add the letter "l" [ell] to the end of your book mark. The surname variations have been submitted and are now in place so if there is anyone on the list who spells their names different from our mail list name, you'll find the surname variations under the surnames. There is no need to show the difference in spelling when posting to the web sites. Is everyone receiving their notice when a new item is posted? Hope so. Be sure to let me know if you have any problems. I'll keep you posted on any changes. donna > Hi Folks, > > Here's a book mark for you to use until the administrative work has been > completed for our new web sites. 3. Hi Folks, Here's a book mark for you to use until the administrative work has been completed for our new web sites. The ladies at GenConnect are trying to set up a new Indexing system. Until its ready the book mark below will take you to an index where our surname lists are located. This will also help you locate any other surname boards you may want to check out and post to. http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/indx/FamAssoc.htm Thanks to all the wonderful people who are posting to our boards. Looks like you guys were ready for this. Enjoy and I'll finish the other stuff. donna list host AGEE BRAND IRVIN SPEARMAN Proud to be a RootsWeb Sponsor Plus

In the mean time you can access the boards by going to the following URL http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/index/Surnames/I.htm Click on the surname menu and you'll find us there. 1. [IRVIN-L] Our web sites are on line
    2. Donna Brand Higgins
    3. Hi everybody, Our new web sites are up and ready for information to be input. I've left all the boards open to anyone who wants to post for the next 6 months. Hope all of you will take a few minutes to go by and check out the new locations and post information to them. And be sure to let your other family members who are not a part of the mail list know so they can post if they like. For those cousins who are aware of everything, I will be sending a duplicate message to Kathleen Mangum, Larry Brand, Dean Smith, Randy Mullinax, and Frank Davis. So you guys don't have to follow up. The Query page will be archived after one month. However, all the other boards, i.e.; Obits, Biographies; Wills; Deeds; Bible Records; and Pensions will stay resident for 6 months before going to archives. Remember the web searches for what's in the subject of a message. That means if you want someone who's doing a search on the Internet to find you then you'll want the correct wording in the subject line. This will not be a good place to do a reply leaving the subject as is. Change it to what you want found. This is also a place to be sure your email address is correct. I understand there is a lot of email generated by these web sites. For those miscellaneous items like letters, wedding announcements, or a whole list of marriages you can still place them in a query. GenConnect is looking at producing other boards for these items, its just that they're not ready yet. I will be subscribing our mail lists to receive all new posts to the various sites, so we'll know about them first and know if we are interested or if its something we want to delete. That means that if you just posted a message to one of the sites then you'll receive an email copy via the mail list for your records just in case you want to keep it. This message will be going to all my lists at the same time. There are at least 60 people who will want all the web site addresses in one post for their records. Madalyn, I'm sorry. Just delete three of them. And Wyndell, you know what to do. I've decided to allow the advertising of books that pertain to the surname only. For instance, I'll be placing information in a query about how to obtain the book "The Descendants of John Spearman of Virginia" unless you'd like to do it Debbie. Let me know. Is there anyone who wants to supply info about how to obtain a copy of "The Agee Register"? But you all need to know. If the book being advertised doesn't have some significance to the surname it will be deleted. The other piece of information you'll need is that I'll be editing. That means if a query gets posted to a Bio site I'll copy, delete, and repost it to the proper place. So if one of you accidentally get something in the wrong place, don't worry, it can be fixed. In case anyone is wondering the Brand mail list is for my father, James Asbury Brand. My father's mother was named Mollie Evelyn Irvin, hence the Irvin surname. My father's grandmother was Melissa Jane Moore and her mother's name was Mary Jane Spearman, hence the Spearman surname. My father's great grandmother was Harriett Winn and her mother's name was Nancy Agee, hence the Agee surname. Hopefully this will help a lot of my cousins on all the lists know where I fit into the schema of things. To begin posting to the various boards go to: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/Agee (Queries) http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/AgeeObits http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/AgeeBios http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/AgeeWill http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/AgeeDeed http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/AgeeBibl http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/AgeePens http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/Brand (Queries) http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/BrandObits http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/BrandBios http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/BrandWill http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/BrandDeed http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/BrandBibl http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/BrandPens http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/Irvin (Queries) http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/IrvinObits http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/IrvinBios http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/IrvinWill http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/IrvinDeed http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/IrvinBibl http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/IrvinPens http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/Spearman (Queries) http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/SpearmanObits http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/SpearmanBios http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/SpearmanWill http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/SpearmanDeed http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/SpearmanBibl http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/SpearmanPen I'll be busy setting up the administrative activities for a couple of days. Ya'll can start posting. Hope we all find our most wanted relatives and crash through some of those brick walls. Be sure to keep a weather eye on our mail list, this is where someone may want some help from you before they actually post to a particular board. And as always if you have any problems, just drop me a line, I'll do the best I can to help. Thanks to all of you for all of your support. Enjoy donna list host AGEE BRAND IRVIN SPEARMAN

    1. [IRVIN-L] Our new Web Sites
    2. Donna Brand Higgins
    3. Hi everybody, Well its almost time to activate our new web sites. I have submitted request for each surname list to have all seven selections, and it looks like we're gonna get them all. That means that there are 4 surnames; AGEE - BRAND - IRVIN - SPEARMAN; and each one will have a Query board; a Bible board; a Biography board; a Will board; a Pension board; an Obituary board; and a Deeds board. That's a total of 28 sites to be filled in soon. Hopefully you will all be able to see that I cannot do this alone. I will need help from all of you. For the people who work a regular 8 hour day, for the people with small children, and for those who have a medical problem limiting their ability to enter information, and for my full time students, I will be glad to do the work for you. The only problem here is that I'll need the information. So you can either send it via email, or snail mail. For those electing to send the information via snail mail, please email me for an address. This message goes to archives where "anyone" would be able to pick it up. In addition, I'll split the copy costs and postage with you. Just be aware that I'm retired and live on a fixed income. I'll reimburse first come first served. Now we come to some things everyone will need to think about. Please use some common sense when posting items to the boards. These items will eventually go to archives to be viewed by anyone wishing to see them. It isn't at all like our mail list where we have some privacy for a period of time. So don't put a physical address on a query. And I'd suggest too that the statistical information about living individuals be kept out of your posts as well. Next is the subject of copyright. If you are in doubt about copyright there is a RootsWeb mail list where you can ask questions about copyright. It is COPYRIGHT-L-request@rootsweb.com It works like any other RootsWeb mail list. If any material that has been copyrighted by another individual before it was posted to the web sites, other than by the person holding the copyright, it will be deleted. The best remedy to this is to ask for and receive permission before you post. So send a letter to the editor of a newspaper before posting a full obituary or biography. Most will tell you yes, with credit given, and ask you not to edit. There are two different ways that our web sites can be set up. The first one is an open item and the second one is a closed item. I plan on having our Query board open to anyone who wishes to post to it. As members of the mail list we'll see every query posted here first. However, I want the other boards closed. People who are not a part of our mail lists will be able to see them, but they won't be able to post to them. Only subscribers will be allowed to post to those boards. We now have a new purpose for our mail list. This is where we can bounce ideas around before we post them to our boards. As long as we all participate with feedback, those who finally post to our boards will have a better idea of what they actually want to see in print. Please be aware. I only have two hard and fast rules. No Flames, and no Spam. Anything else is negotiable. However, Spam and a Flame will be deleted without notice. This brings up another subject. Unlike the mail list, I will now have the ability to edit our web sites. So if you accidentally hit a wrong key and it gets stuck like that, don't worry. Just drop me a line and I can go fix it. The only other thing to mention is that if you are in doubt about what to post, just drop me a line. We'll talk about it. Or if I'm not available talk it over via our mail list, surely someone will help you. This message is going out to all my lists all at once. For those who are subscribed to two or all 4 of those lists please pardon the duplication, I promise it won't happen very often. I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm so excited I can hardly wait. I look forward to hearing from all of you in one way or another soon. Respectfully, donna brand higgins list host AGEE BRAND IRVIN SPEARMAN

    1. [IRVIN-L] Votes are in
    2. Donna Brand Higgins
    3. Hi folks, The votes are in and tallied. Looks like we have a query board. For those of you who wanted one of the other 7 items let me explain. A query is like a blank piece of paper. You can put anything on it that you like. i.e.: Obits, Biographies, Wills, Deeds, Bible Records, and Pensions. So just because we don't have that as a topic idea doesn't mean we can't post that information there. We can and should. I'm about to activate the board now. It will be a couple of days before it will be ready. As time and finances allow I will activate as many boards as possible in the future. However, you need to know. The extra boards are still available to anyone who wishes to activate them and handle the administrative work involved with caring for them. Activating a page requires becoming a RootsWeb sponsor. If any of you feel like you'd like to do this, I'd be happy to work with you. What I'm hoping for is that after the holidays you'll all dig into your files and post that information that may help connect your line with someone else's. There's a lot of empty space that we, as a team, will need to fill up. Well, think about it any way. Talk to you all as soon as I have an address for our new web site. Until then I hope everyone of you have the Merriest of Christmases and the Happiest of New Years. donna list host
