Is anyone tracing the family of Dr John Irvine b 1814 Mt Vernon, Ohio? He lived for many years in Sharon, Mercer Co, PA and died in 1878. Any information welcome, Jillian Melbourne, Australia
Thank you, Donna. I am really an IRWIN rooter, but somehow the IRVINES were involved and I hope to find out the connection of my Samuel ERWIN/IRWIN to the Irvine arrival in 1729 on the ship George&Anne to America. If any of your readers have any information on the Irvine/Irwin emigration or in particular have a document that refers to the emigrate ship/ships, please contact; Dave Famsource@aol.com

Sorry I forgot to include a Hezekiah Ervin with my Simmons info. Hezekiah Ervin born 1775 married Mary Polly Simmons and traveled with his father in law James Simmons. Hezekiah was in Lincoln County Tennessee from 1816 to 1832. He was in Cape Girardeau County Mo. from 1832 to 1866 or after when he died. There was also a Eli Ervin who may have been a relation to Hezekiah. Greg Simmons
I am looking for the following Simmons in the Following Places: Andrew Simmons 1808 to 1816 Lincoln County TN to Cape Girardeau Co. MO. John Simmons Senior and Junior 1808 to 1821 Rutherford County Tennessee to Cape Girardeau Co. MO. Does anyone know of an Jonathan Irvin who married Harriett Coons in Jefferson County, WVA on 26 Oct 1823. Jonathan and family are listed in the 1830 Jefferson County, WVa census but the story goes that they moved on the Ohio. I now think they moved to Fayette County, Ohio where Jonathan died and Harriett and the children moved on to Logan County, Illinois. The children's names were Katherine, Mary Virginia, and James Henry Irvin. Katherine married a George Gard and Mary Virginia married Green Murphy. I have been searching for the origin of Jonathan Irvin for years. In one census, James Henry stated his father was born in Pennsylvania. If any of the above data means anything to anyone on the list, please contact me. Maryln
Susanne I noticed your post that mentioned that someone had a book of information on Irvin/Irwin in Iowa. I am new to this list and dont know how the subject line is suppost to be written, but I will post to the list anyway. If anyone else has any information on this or related families, plesde respond to this post. I am looking for my greatgrandfathers family. I believe that his name was Josiah L. Irvin and that he was married to a Lidia unknown. Josiah was probably born in Penn in Nov,1852 and his wife Lidia was probably born in Iowa about June 1858. I have six children for them, all probably born near Center City in Appanoose Co. Iowa. The children were Daniel P. born June 1878, William Norman born Dec. 1879, James R. born Feb. 1888, Roy L. born June 1890, Emma B. born May 1894, and Mary E. born Oct 1895. There mahy have been other children that I dont have. I suspect that Josiah and Lidia were married about 1877, but I dont know that. Does your book or anyone else have any information on this family? Alan and other cousins- The above Latin is from a wonderful book about the Irwins of Iowa which I received from a new-found cousin, an Irwin who lives on a farm in that state. The Latin is from an Irvine device in a history of the Irvings of Bonshaw. I think that MY forebears are IRVINES, but actually we are all the same very large family which originated in Ayrshire, Scotland and now lives in many places around the globe. The translation of the Latin is "vigorous under the sun and under the shade." Seems to cover about everything. Live and be strong. Susanne Bartlett
Hello Alan You are not really the only researcher of Irwin on the list...most of us here in the USA have Irwin, Irvin, Irvine, Erwin, Ervin and even Arvin and Urvin etc. spellings in the same families...it is just how the name was spelled or mispelled by whoever was recording , taking or keeping records for various court, census , property records at any given time or how the family passed the spelling down. We consider ourselves all one and therefore check out all info with those spellings. As for mine ,so far I have found most of these spellings in my lines..but mainly ask for Irvine as that this the way it was supposed to be for our family. We sort of understand that when we see spellings for any of these variations that it is possible that these are related to us in some way. So you are not the only one with Irwin ...just know that when I see that spelling I always check as it could be one of mine and the same goes for most of us. Just wanted you to know you are not alone. :) Happy hunting Mary Irvine Kennedy
Please take a look at the article below and, as always, be careful of downloading. Never open attachments that you are not sure of. http://www.msnbc.com/msn/253803.asp More about it can be found here: http://www.cert.org/advisories/CA-99-04-Melissa-Macro-Virus.html or here: http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/mailissa.html Should you need help with a virus checker you may find help here. http://housecall.antivirus.com/explorer.html This is not a normal post. I really don't want a lot of posts to the list with virus warnings that spook people with a string of questions. It places a heavy burden on our free use servers at RootsWeb. I have information that will help you privately, just drop me a line at dbrand@hpnc.com In the mean time lets all get back to our genealogy research. donna list host

I guess you know that a part of McDowell County was form from Rutherford Co NC in 1844. In the 1850 Census of McDowell and again in 1860 are several Irvin families. This is my family but I have lost track at that point. I know one of the elders, Lemira Irvin/Irvine, was born in Va. according to the Census. My gggrandfather was James Irvin. He died in the Civil War as an older man in either Homeguard or Senior reserves. He had sons James, John, and Robert(my ggrandfather). My ggrandfather was born in 1853, too young to serve in the war but his two older brothers were veterans of the Civil War, in the surrender at Appomattox. John then brought Robert to Haywood County during the reconstruction in 1867 where Robert remained(he was an orphan since his mother had died at his birth). The surname spelling later evolved in the late 1800's to Erwin. I wonder if we are the same line or family group of Irvins--will be gald to share what I have which is very little but it may be that we have each others clues--Ed Erwin, Arden, N.C. -----Original Message----- From: Bill & Lynelle Stevenson <lynelle3@bellsouth.net> To: IRVIN-L@rootsweb.com <IRVIN-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Thursday, March 18, 1999 11:17 AM Subject: [IRVIN-L] JOHN A./ RUTHERFORD CO. Hi folks, I'm gonna be gone for a few days. I'm going to Virginia to do some genealogy research. I'm a little excited about it. I have a research bag loaded with goodies like rubber fingers, stapler, staples, staple remover, paper clips (all sizes) construction paper (to mark where I've taken a file so I don't have to guess where it goes when its time to put it back), a calculator, flashlight, a road map, several pads and pencils, camera and film, etc..., etc..., etc..., Oh, yes, and lots of quarters for the copier. So I guess I'm ready. You'll have a good moderator while I'm gone. Her name is Donna too, but she signs her posts with a capitol D. Should you need help with anything her address is dragoona@rica.net I'll read all the posts when I get back. <GBG> And ya'll don't give Donna too hard a time while I'm gone. She's tougher than I am.
