    3. Also don't forget us Irving's.......My Grandfather and my Father when responding to a request for their name, always said Irvin'.......Dad had 14 years of school in the 19-teens, and Granddad probably none!.........Granddad's Naturalization papers read "Irvin"........know how long it took me to find those papers??? In addition, my Mother insisted to her dying day that Granddad's name was Henry........Of course it was Thomas........I found that out when I found Grandmothers obit in Fayette Co back in the 1980's. Best Regards, Hal "Grandmothers are really antique little girls!"

    2. Dave and Carla Smith
    3. Can anyone identify John Irvine on the Cumberland Co., KY census? He appears to have 2 males 10-15 1 male 26-44 5 females 0-9 and 1 female 26-44 Does anyone know anything about his family? When the county divided and part became Clinton Co., KY he may have been geographically there. Also is a Daniel Irwin in Clinton Co., KY land records. Does anyone know him? The John Irvine, Sr. on this same census is my ancestor. I'm trying to sort everyone out and have no idea who the other one is. Thanks in advance, Carla Smith

    3. Ha! I forget how many spellings there are, but I had never seen Irwin used in my family in the past four generations even though it is probably the main clan spelling in this country. My grandfather had listed even Urwyn, Urwin, Eryvine, Erevine, and so on in some work he did trying to figure this out back in the early 70's before he died--I guess you have to consider them all a possibility--take care--Cusin Ed -----Original Message----- From: Kathleen Ward <Kitward@btinternet.com> To: IRVIN-L@rootsweb.com <IRVIN-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Wednesday, July 07, 1999 1:27 AM Subject: Re: [IRVIN-L] James Irvin >Ed Don't forget the other spelling IRWIN - you might miss something. 1. [IRVIN-L] IRVIN, JONATHAN
    2. I am desperately STILL searching any info on Jonathan Irvin who married Harriett Coons 26 Oct 1823 in Jefferson County, WVA. They remained in the area until after the 1830 census. They then moved on to Ohio, I suspect either Fayette County or Morgan County. Jonathan died sometime in 1837/8. The couple had at least 4 children, one dying while young. Katherine, Mary Virginia and James Henry lived. Harriett moved on to Logan County, Ill where I find her living in 1850, listed as Harriett Ervin. She then married Mr. John Reed. If any of these sounds familiar, please contact me. I do not know Jonathan's parents or any brothers or sisters. I suspect Jonathan may have been born in Pennsylvania. Maryln Tetzlaff

    3. Thank you for all the work you have done on the ARDOUIN family. I very much appreciate it. I can claim little credit for the early ARDOUIN research. When I first became interested, many years ago, I contacted the only ARDOUIN in the London telephone directory who put me in touch with her grandfather EDWARD ARDOUIN. now deceased. He had written a very interesting account of his research which is deposited at the Huguenot Society of Great Britain and Ireland, The Huguenot Library, University College, Gower Street, London WC1 6BT who have since been very helpful. I am sure they would be happy to send copies of the very extensive Family Tree and to help you in any research you might be inclined to carry out. I am most impressed with your excellent English language. I am ashamed to say that, like most lazy English my French is deporable. Particularly sad since I am of part French descent. At the age of 85 I think it is probably too late to start ! So that makes me doubly grateful to you. Now, having gone back so far, I would love to find contemporary ARDOUINS who might be interested in their descent and with whom I might share my research. I look forward to hearing from you, but there is no hurry. I realise that there are other things in life than Family History, interesting and absorbing though it is. With good wishes, Kathleen Ward. ----- Original Message ----- From: Kathleen Ward <Kitward@btinternet.com> To: <IRVIN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: 07 July 1999 06:29 Subject: Re: [IRVIN-L] James Irvin > Ed Don't forget the other spelling IRWIN - you might miss something. 3. Hello all, it appears we are doing a roll call and I wanted to re-list the basics of my search: My ggrandfather was James Robert Irvin/Ervin/Erwin b. 1-15-1851-53 supposedly in McDowell Co. NC. Little is known prior to him as his mother died soon after his birth, his father re-marrried about 1855 and then died in the Civil War. 3. Mary, as you asked, I might have that tiny shred that would lead you elsewhere. I have an interest in the Rose that was a dau of Col. Rose. I note her middle name to be Fitzhugh. I have a connection, however slight, thru Fitzhugh, and I seem to recall a Rose connection but can't easily lay my hands on the documents. Will look as time allows. I have been somewhat ill for the past seven months and my medication doesn't help my research abilities at this time. Being nearly 70 doesn't help either. Anyway, do you have more re: Fitzhugh and/or Rose of VA? There is an abundance of data available for the Fitzhugh family as it was one of the wealthiest and high placed families in America..connected to George Washington, The Custis Family, the Carter's to name a few from memory....They were also a family of wealth in England. A latter day Fitzhugh married a Dawson in my wife's Linder line in Iowa in the late 1800's. Let me know if anything sounds familiar. Hal, from Northern California! (An Ohioan by birth, a Californian by choice!)

    3. Anyone working on Joseph IRWIN/IRVINE, who emigrated from Tyrone ? in 1832. He was married to Nancy JOHNSON. One child was Andrew IRWIN born in 1830 in Tyrone. They may have come to Nova Scotia or New Brunswick and then to Ontario. I have traced Andrew from 1861 to 1918 in Ontario. He may have had siblings, William and Samuel, who were in Erin Twp. Wellington Co. in 1871 and on. Andrew, Samuel and William were Coopers by trade. Thanks Jean Lawson Barrie, Ontario

    1. [IRVIN-L] My Irvine Search
    2. Hello to all, This is a repeat and I am still searching :) I am trying to locate any info that anyone might have on WALTER IRVINE , I believe him to be the one who married Ann Fitzhugh Rose d/o Col. Patrick Rose in 1790, the marriage was in Amherst Co . ...The Samuel Irvine ,who married a cousin of hers also named Ann Rose,d/o Hugh Rose, in 1794 is believed to be his brother...they too married in Amherst Co....Samuel apparently stayed in the area of Amherst as there are records for him... The Walter, who I believe to be my ggggrandfather, went to Buckingham Co...as he has at least one child born there in 1802...of course Buck.Co. records burned twice. The Walter who married Ann was dead by 1812 and she remarried a Payne.. I really think these are the same Walter Irvines.. There is a record in Gordons accounts of his hiring horse to travel to Buck. Co. in 1820's to settle the suit of Walter's adminstrators...Gordon was Att. in Amherst and also was to do some degree involved with Samuels estate also. These suits and estate settlements sometimes went on for several years as each minor child became adult. I know that my gggrandfather Samuel was born in Buck. Co. in 1802 and married Catherine Greenhill Jones in Amelia Co.....they lived in Buck. Co. for several years and their first children were born there. They then left and went to Weakley Co Tn. in 1833. My Walter from all reports was a merchant and probably owned several properties as Samuel did in Amherst. I would like to be able to locate the records or the suit or an obituary for Walter...I have located Samuel's but Walter died before he did. Anything that would name survivors would be most helpful in establishing proof of what I already am pretty certain of. Does anyone know who the father of Walter and Samuel was and if he left a will? I have sent mail to chancery court to try and locate but have received no response. If anyone has the tinest shred of info I would really appreciate any help you could give. Thank You, Mary RESEARCHING : IRVINE, JONES, GREENHILL,MORAN,BOYD, HAWKINS,SWEPSON,HARRIS,BATTLES,PERRY, CRUDUP to name a few.

    1. [IRVIN-L] Irvin/Irwin lines
    2. Dave and Carla Smith
    3. Hello, I've not posted to this list before because I wasn't sure it was the appropriate list - IRWIN is the name in my line but it is often written in old lists, censuses, etc. as IRVINE or IRVIN. I'm hoping that perhaps someone can help me clear up some confusion in what I'm researching and have been privately discussing with other people not on the list. My line begins, as far as I can tell, with William IRWIN (IRL>PA) settling in Cumberland Co., PA William and unknown wife had three sons: Robert, James, and John John(b. mid 1700's) (served in Rev. War at Trenton) married an Elizabeth CUNNINGHAM said to be of Welsh descent in PA, we think. There are some who have also found John IRWIN married to Jean/Jane Campbell VA or NC. John migrated south to Sullivan Co., TN/VA and at least on son was born there in 1788. By 1799 he was in Cumberland/Clinton Co., KY. John's children were: Elizabeth (b. 1785 d. 1851 TN) m. George Wood William d. 1849) m. Elizabeth Forester Francis (frank) John, Jr. (b. 1788 TN d. 1884 KY)m. Jemima Stockton Margaret (Peggy) m. Benjamin McDowell Nancy m. Leven Bristow Looking for someone who can help me verify or deny the IRWIN/CAMPBELL marriage or who can tell me any other info about this family - John Sr or his brothers, or their father, or Elizabeth Cunningham. Thank you! Carla Smith
