    3. Bravo, Cara, for all the patience and determination shown by you and Patrick Nagle to get back some respect and dignity for the old monument. Persistence does sometimes pay off. Congratulations. We have had similar stories in the newspapers about the vandalism and general neglect of some of our older cemeteries with pleas going out to families of those interred, and to the general public to maintain the property or to repair some of the broken stones. In one case recently, the stones had not been documented in any organized fashion and a well-meaning groundskeeper, in an effort to tidy things up a bit, had picked up the broken or fallen stones and placed them nice as you please against a nearby tree. As there were no surviving burial records for this old cemetery, there is now no way of knowing who is buried in what plot.
