Barb - Who are/were your Wicklow Byrnes? Do you know their townland? When did they migrate and to where? What religion? What kind of information do you seek about Byrne surname in Co.Wicklow? Hi Sharon, My gg-grandmother was Mary Burns/Byrne b. abt. 1823. She married Matthew Kennedy b. abt. 1820 in Ireland. According to his gravestone, he was "of Rathdrum Parrish, County Wicklow, Ireland. The children of Matthew and Mary are Catherine b. 5 Jun 1845, Mary b. abt. 1850, Michael b. 17 Sept 1850, Thomas 1853, Lawrence 1856, Patrick, 1858. According to the immigration list there was also a John born abt. 1859 which isn't listed on any of the US census reports. I do have some information of the Byrnes from Peggy (Weadick Research) She indicated that a Matthew Kennedy/Mary Byrne had twins, Matthew and Laurence b. 1856) however the dates don't match my Lawrence. So I'm not sure if I have correct family although there were children born with similar names. They were Catholic. It seems there are several Matthew Kennedy's and Mary Byrne's that married and children with similar names. Mary immigrated 12 Aug 1869 with Mary, Patrick, Thomas and Lawrence to the US, New Jersey and settled in the Wharton area. Matthew and Michael did not and I can't locate them anywhere. Catherine went to England, married a William Vickers, She immigrated in 1864. William Vickers was from Seven Churches. I'm not sure of the Townland. One record states Ballinafunshogue and one was Glenmalur. It's a puzzle. Peggy was just great helping me but now that I'm going to Ireland I wish I had information about Matthew and Mary's parents. I plan on going to the Nat'l Library. Hoping this will turn up more info. Thanks for asking! If you can offer any words of advise I am open to suggestion.
