My BRADLEYs are from Co Wicklow, Ireland, and at least five of them migrated to Victoria, Australia between about 1848 and 1862. They are as follows: Jacob BRADLEY, "Gentleman Farmer" m. Martha COUZENS (~1799-1863). Her parents were William COUSINS and Eliza THOMPSON and she migrated to Victoria Australia in 1862 on the Marco Polo, and died in 1863, aged 63, place of birth given as Wicklow. Martha arrived in Australia with her youngest son son Thomas Isaac BRADLEY so it is likely that Jacob had already died. Children listed on Martha's death certificate: 1. William BRADLEY- nothing known - possibly died in infancy 2,Elizabeth Carol BRADLEY b ~ 1832 Wicklow d 1910 Essendon Vic Aust m. [1] Charles JONES in Powerscourt Wicklow 1846, Church of Ireland (I have a contemporary copy of ORIGINAL marriage certificate), [2] Arthur David HARVEY in Melbourne Australia in 1856. Elizabeth and Charles probably emigrated to Australi 1849 on the Mahommed Shah 3. Jacob BRADLEY b Wicklow ~1830 d Melbourne Aust 1895 m Wicklow Sarah Jane BURTON ~1852 . Jacob and Sarah emigrated to Australia in 1853 on the Derry Castle 4. Martha Matilda BRADLEY b Wicklow ~1832 d 1902 Carlton Vic Aust m [1] Melbourne Aust 1853 William Hayles BARTON [2] Vic Aust 1889 Henry HUGHES Martha emigrated to Australia 1852 on the Clifton. 5. Emily BRADLEY b ~1836 - nothing known 6 Joseph BRADLEY B ~1840 Wicklow d 1895 Melbourne Aust m. [1] Catherine LEESON Dublin Jun 1861 [2] 1883 Vic Aust Sarah Ann LANGFORD Joseph and Catherine emigrated to Victoria Australia in 1861 on the Prince of the Seas 7. Thomas Isaac BRADLEY b ~1840 Wicklow d 1915 Clifton Hill Vic Aust m. Louisa BAXTER 1864 Vic Aust Australia. Emigrated to Vic Aust 1862 on the Marco Polo. Something bad was happening to the BRADLEY family in Wicklow. One by one, 5 of his children emigrated, the last being the youngest son Thomas Isaac who came with his mother. This suggests that Jacob probably died. Also, when Eliza married in 1846 he was described as a "gentleman farmer" but on some death certificates of his children he is described as "gamekeeper". Potato famine? Any suggestions would be appreciated, and any connections would be wonderful. Regards Kate Boyce Melbourne Australia ps: while most birth places were simply given as Wicklow, one stated Lough Bray. Then, with death certificates one never knows. The only firm place I have is the Church of Ireland in Powerscourt.
