    1. Re: IRL-WICKLOW-Mary Ann and Peter John HOGAN - ARKLOW
    2. Ahh, Kathleen Now we're getting somewhere. Unfortunately, the Arklow (S.S. Mary and Peter's Church) records start in 1818, except for a couple from 1809. There were only two Hogan couples having babies back then: Laurence and Mary (Carroll) Hogan: They probably married before 1818, since I have no Marriage Record for them. Their recorded children were: Anastasia Baptized 29 January, 1820, sponsors: Thomas and Jane Norton, Residence: Charter School, in Arklow. Laurence Baptized 11 July, 1822, sponsors: James Nolan and Catherine Tyrrell, Residence: Charter School, in Arklow Ellen Baptized 12 October 1826, sponsors: John Coleman and Judith Kingsmile, Residence: Charter School, in Arklow. Denis and Catherine (Scully) Hogan also probably married before the commencement of Church records in 1818. The only child recorded for this couple was: James, Baptized 20 June, 1819, sponsors: Denis Manus and Mary Farrell, residence: Arklow. I find no Mary or Peter. Are you sure it was Hogan and not Hagan? As my mother would say, "Hagan is an Arklow name", and I have hundreds of Hagans, over a 70 year span. Of course, I may have transcribed the name wrong, assuming they were Hagans because it IS an Arklow name, and my eyes are not as young as my brain thinks they are. So there you have the only recorded Hogans Baptized in S.S. Mary and Peter's Church in Arklow, for the time period you've given. Also, in the very early records, no second names are recorded. So...I have a Mary HAgan daughter of James and Mary Doyle Hagan, Baptized 8 December, 1821, sponsor: Elizabeth Byrne, residence: Arklow She's the only Mary for that time period. I have two Peter HAgans, but they were Baptized in 1820. One Peter was born to Patrick and Margaret Clancy Hagan, sponsors: Peter Hagan and Margaret Brien, residence Kilahurler. The other Peter was borne to Peter and Mary Sunderland Hagan, sponsors: Mathew Byrne and Mary Dermott, residence: Ballinasillogue. Hope this helps you, Peggy
