Dear Listers, I have broken the rule I made and have returned to this subject, after discussions with *himself* he has explained to me the 100 euros lookup in the Arklow Parish. What has been put in place is a search fee, but it was put in place so that those requesting a lookup returned to pick it up, they were then given their money back less the fee for the certificate ( I dont know the cost of that ). What had been happening in the past, was a request was made, the volunteer staff were doing the search for the relevant people, and that can take from one day to many hours, and anyone who has done searching will tell you, ( I myself can tell you this is hard work ) and no one was returning for the lookup. This was making the staff tetchy and so this is why the heavy fee has been placed in front of the search. Now the other thing I am learning is that in this area you now have a parish office, there is another in Gorey Co Wexford and there is now one in Avoca, so me thinks this will be the forward thinking of all Clergy to have a front office to do these lookups, which to me makes good sense. I am sorry for leading anyone astray, my intentions were never to do that I acted on what I had been told and did not look into it further until yesterday. SO feel free to discuss your parish registers, and indeed I am not against anyone discussing anything Just be aware that I am held responsible at the end of the day to Roots Web who prefer anything that has to be paid for to be taken off the list.........that is in regards to family research. I hope this has covered my sin CARA
