    3. Here's a thought, perhaps off topic, though. I would have thought that naming convention would have promulgated from the historic culture more so than a religion. Perhaps when Christianity struck, all things were turned upside down. -----Original Message----- From: Cara_Links [mailto:cracker@hotkey.net.au] Sent: Wednesday, October 19, 2005 04:40 To: IRL-WICKLOW-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [Wicklow] Church of Ireland naming Yes there is let me go through some registers and see how different it appears over a time period Cara ----- Original Message ----- From: "Paul" <pdowling7@comcast.net> To: <IRL-WICKLOW-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, October 18, 2005 11:13 PM Subject: RE: [Wicklow] NAMING PATTERN FOOTNOTE OR TOPNOTE > Is there a different pattern for C of I? > > -----Original Message----- > From: Cara_Links [mailto:cracker@hotkey.net.au] > Sent: Tuesday, October 18, 2005 00:25 > To: IRL-WICKLOW-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: [Wicklow] NAMING PATTERN FOOTNOTE OR TOPNOTE > > * A footnote on this ...........naming pattern > > doesnt seem to apply to Church of Ireland very often > Cara > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Kathleen & Ross Crain" <rosscrain@shaw.ca> > To: <IRL-WICKLOW-L@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Tuesday, October 18, 2005 5:47 AM > Subject: Re: [Wicklow] Irish naming pattern > > >> Thanks very much for the information. >> Kathleen >> ----- Original Message ----- >> From: "Paul" <pdowling7@comcast.net> >> To: <IRL-WICKLOW-L@rootsweb.com> >> Sent: Monday, October 17, 2005 9:39 AM >> Subject: RE: [Wicklow] Irish naming pattern >> >> >>> Per: >>> >>> http://www.billcarney.com/brickmasons/genmisc/naming.htm >>> >>> Irish Naming Conventions >>> >>> The 1st son was usually named after the father's father >>> The 2nd son was usually named after the mother's father >>> The 3rd son was usually named after the father >>> The 4th son was usually named after the father's eldest brother >>> The 5th son was usually named after the mother's eldest brother >>> The 1st daughter was usually named after the mother's mother >>> The 2nd daughter was usually named after the father's mother >>> The 3rd daughter was usually named after the mother >>> The 4th daughter was usually named after the mother's eldest sister >>> The 5th daughter was usually named after the father's eldest sister >>> >>> Paul >>> >>> -----Original Message----- >>> From: Kathleen & Ross Crain [mailto:rosscrain@shaw.ca] >>> Sent: Monday, October 17, 2005 12:33 >>> To: IRL-WICKLOW-L@rootsweb.com >>> Subject: [Wicklow] Irish naming pattern >>> >>> Does anyone know the Irish naming pattern ? 1. Tellicherry Five arrive in Port Jackson 15 Feb 1806
    2. P Mayberry
    3. Hello All, Two hundred years ago this coming February the last remnants of the 1798 Irish Rebellion & Robert Emmet's 1803 Rebellion arrived in Port Jackson, New South Wales, Australia on board the vessel "Tellicherry". Amongst the 1798 rebels were the five State Prisoners, Michael Dwyer John Mernagh, Arthur Devlin, Hugh Vesty Byrne and Martin Burke. These five were all Wicklow man. Starting last Friday week, I attended the annual 3 day Irish Seminar held at the former Redemptorist Monastery, Galong near Yass, New South Wales. The theme of the seminar was the Life & Times of Michael Dwyer and the Waverley cemetery monument in Sydney. It is my intention over the next few months to place photographs of this impressive monument on my web site. There also will be an explanation to the symbolism around this monument. I would also like to compile a list of books & articles on Michael Dwyer and the Wicklow Mountains area. For instance, I've noticed that Paul Gorry wrote an article in a West Wicklow journal around 1984 about Michael. Regards, Peter Mayberry Tuggeranong ACT http://www.pcug.org.au/~ppmay/ Site for Irish convicts to NSW 1791-1830
