I have just got back from a trip to Ireland and spent a lot of time digging in the Crossbridge areas for my CLARE line. A relative of my husbands gave me a book called "Reminiscences of Crossbridge, Co. Wicklow". It covers the surrounding areas too which breaks down into each parish with lots of names, people information going back a long way and details of some of the baptism records of each church. If anyone is searching in that area, please let me know and I will do a lookup. Marion Victoria, BC Canada
Hi Marion, My grandmother, Margaret Letitia Haskins was born at Farnees, not far from Crossbridge on 15 April 1862. She was the daughter of Thomas Haskins and Jane Jones. Thomas Haskins was a tenant of Lord Fitzwilliam and he worked for him on the drainage of the estate and riding around on his business. The Haskins were at Farnees from 1857 to 1868. At the time of the Griffiths Valuation John & Elizabeth Leonard lived at Farnees and the Haskins family were still at Fairwood on the other side of Tinahely. I am looking for a connection between the Leonard family and the Jones family. There is reference in a letter to "Aunt Betty Leonard" though I am aware that the term "Aunt" was loosely applied sometimes where there is only friendship between families. The following Death Notice was sent to me, an extract from a Methodist Magazine of 1848. 1847 " May 5th,_ At Farnee,(sic) near Tinahely, in the Wicklow Circuit, Miss Sarah Jones, aged 22. From her childhood she feared God, and when fifteen years of age anxiously sought, and clearly obtained, through faith in the atonement, the Spirit of adoption. During a revival of religion in 1844, she was graciously visited. Soon she took charge of a juvenile class, and, in her capacity of Leader, was very faithful and efficient. As a Collector for the Wesleyan Missions she was indefatigable. Her conversation, her pen, and her influence, were all made to instruct her young acquaintance; and they were made a blessing. Her last illness was short and severe. In deep humiliation she clung to the cross. Her last words were, "Nothing I ask or want beside, Of all in earth or heaven; But let me feel thy blood applied, And live and die forgiven." J.H." Do you have any info on the Jones, Leonard or Haskins families? Hi Betty, I have a John Jones, whose daughter Mary Jones married Wentworth Paine from Tinahely, Co. Wicklow sometime in the 1830th. Does that look familiar? I would love to hear from you. Kind regards Inga, Wellington NZ ----- Original Message ----- From: "betty" <betty@flexinet.com.au>
