George Strahan, Ballymanus, Ballinglen, Tinahely died suddenly last week at the age of 79 years. He was born in Macreddin, the youngest of a family of six. In 1965 George married Winifred Bell from Monkstown and in 1967 they started farming in Ballymanus where he carried on a sheep and suckler cow enterprise. He had a daughter Linda and a son Graham and they worked together on the family farm. George devoted his life to his family and his farm. George was a very active member of the farming community. In his early years he was involved in Aughrim Macra na Feirme and especially in debating and public speaking competitions. He was also chairman of Aughrim Macra. He was on the committee that started up the mart in Aughrim in the early 1960's and later became a member of Aughrim Sheep Show Committee. He was actively involved in Aughrim IFA and was chairman for a number of years. He maintained his interest and involvement in IFA up until the time of his death. George enjoyed playing indoor bowls and was a member of the Tinahely Bowls Club for a number of years. George is survived by his wife Winifred, his daughter Linda and his son Graham.
